Brand in Focus: Bespoke Aroma

It has been awhile since I have done a 'brand in focus' blog post but when I was introduced to Bespoke Aroma, I thought this would be best way to show how amazing their work is and highlight some of their fantastic products.

Bespoke Aroma are a small brand based in the Lake District set up by the lovely Jo Evans. Having noticed that I been really poorly lately, Jo sent me a lovely Bespoke Aroma package filled with natural skin care products to help me get back on the mend. The package contained: Two types of aromatherapy hand cream, bath infusion tea bags, pulse point oils and a facial skin tonic.

The Bespoke Aroma range of teas, skin creams and oils were created by aroma massage therapist Jo Evans, who realised there was a gap in the market for more hypoallergenic skin care when her clients confided in her about their skin care concerns. Many of these concerns were related to common dermatology problems, but one of her clients had undergone treatment for breast cancer and her skin was very sensitive.

Alongside her current job the former spa manager started manufacturing a bespoke range of skin care by testing these against the needs of her clients. This has resulted in an extensive range of luxurious bath and beauty products that have been hand-blended in the beautiful and natural surroundings of the Lake District.

One of the products that I have been eager to try for awhile now has been the Bespoke Aroma bath teas. As someone that suffers ongoing joint problems due to arthritis, baths are a godsend. They help ease my pain and give me a few minutes of the day to relax and forget about my problems.  The tea I had tried had a mixture of: Inger - a herb with an analgesic effect which helps relieve muscle spasms and cramps as well as having anti-inflammatory properties,  Star Anise which helps reduce the sensation of pain, Nettle Leaves which have been used for hundreds of years to treat joint problems, Oatmeal and various essential oils to lubricate and soften the skin. When I dropped the tea bag into my bathtub, there was an explosion of beautiful scents that filled the air. The aroma reminded me of a recent spa trip and as I sunk into the hot, relaxing water I felt like I was taken back there. To a place that relaxed me and my body felt at ease. I could feel the hot water and the mix of herbs, spices and oils gently kneading my achy bones and when I came out of the bath, I noticed that a few of my many aches and pains had been swept away.

After drying myself and applying my moisturiser before bed, I applied the Bespoke Aroma Aromatherapy hand cream, the Bergamot & Lavender Pulse Point Oil and finally the Skin Tonic Facial Oil. I found the Bespoke Aroma hand cream a delight to use. It's not often that I buy a hand cream and use it more than five times, but I haven't stopped using the Bespoke Aroma hand cream since it arrived. Unlike most hand creams, this one dissolves into the skin with very little effort and does not leave the hands feeling greasy. The beautiful scent seems to linger all day and my hands feel noticeably softer.

The Lavender Pulse Point Oil is something that I also love. I lead a very hectic lifestyle and I've always had trouble switching off. I have found that applying the lavender oil just before bed helps me de-stress and unwind. I have used Lavender oils many times in the past when I've had university stress, college stress and even when I have a short spell on insomnia at school. I have always found them helpful.

The last product that I tried was the Skin Tonic Facial oil and admittedly it wasn't for me. I have combination skin that goes from oily to dry and this makes me very hesitant when it comes to oily face products. After applying the product to my hand I found the facial oil to be rather gentle and not as oily as I imagined, but my general fear of facial oils got to me before I was able to fully assess the product on my actual face.

With many skin and body care companies out there these days, it's often difficult to find brands that stand out from the crowd, but Bespoke Aroma has gone above and beyond my expectations. Their products are gentle, soothing, relaxing and all natural which makes them perfect for everyone.

Winter Beauty Must Have Products

Looking fabulous during the winter season can often be time consuming and a great effort, especially when you have to contend torrential rain, gusty winds and dark mornings that make you feel like you want to stay in bed. Not only that, the weather also has a habit of making your skin feel drier than ever and the occasional winter humidity can also make your hair frizz. How are we supposed to contend with that? The key to winter beauty is keeping every simple - use a great moisturiser, always carry around a lip balm, make use of those hair masks and try going for neutral, simple to use makeup colours in the morning so that applying your makeup doesn't take as long.

The first item on my recommend products list is the Macadamia Deep Repair mask. The Deep Repair mask uses a combination of macadamia and argan oil both proven to give long lasting nourishment to dry and damaged hair which is then infused with tea tree oil and chamomile oil to give rejuvenate the hair and add shine. I have reviewed Macadamia products countless times on the blog and have never had a bad word to say. If I have a problem with my dry hair, they are my go-to brand.

Next on my list is this gorgeous Chanel blusher from their new autumn and winter range. The Joues Contraste powder blush in number 15 orchid rose is a fabulous product for adding subtle colour to the cheeks on a cold, harsh day and gives an over all refreshing appearance. This goes perfectly with the colours of the Naked Three palette, that when all is applied will give you a beautiful autumn natural look.

When it's cold outside, the first part of your face to really show signs of dryness tends to be the lips. Carrying around a good lip product like this Avene cold cream lip balm from Sknclinics* is a must. This lip balm promises to nourish, hydrate and protect the lips from 'external aggressions' such as bad weather and can be applied as often as required throughout the day.

Finally, a product I could not live without is this Dermalogica super rich repair cream. This Dermalogica moisturiser feels like a gift from heaven. Although it is listed as a 'heavy weight' skin cream, I find that this moisturiser absorbs quickly and effortlessly into the skin and feels as soft and as a light as feather. The Super Rich Repair cream suits those with chronically dry, dehydrated skin and helps replenish moisture levels whilst improving elasticity and tone. I use this everyday without fail and my skin feels better and looks so much better. In this cold weather, I wouldn't be seen without it.

Sunday Samples: Arbonne Trial

A few months ago I started hearing about what I thought was a new cosmetic and body care brand on Twitter called 'Arbonne' (link*). Beauty bloggers were raving about their skincare and even my friends had started mentioning their name. As a blogger, I'm always interested in hearing about new brands and I became intrigued by the concept of Arbonne. It wasn't until recently however, that I discovered that Arbonne aren't a new brand, they have been around since the 1980s and it's only recently that bloggers are discovering them. I wanted to see what all the hype was about and after a talk with an Arbonne consultant, I was able to get my hands on a few little samples.

For those who have never heard of Arbonne, Arbonne was established during 1975 in Switzerland by a man named Peter Morck and a group of leading bio-chemists and herbalists. Arbonne use botanically based ingredients to form natural, soothing and energising skin care and the most exquisite makeup palettes and beauty products. Arbonne works similar to Avon, where you can purchase the products through a local consultant or even become one yourself. The brand started their beauty consultancy work in the 1980s and have been rapidly growing ever since. 

I was sent a variety of Arbonne Anti-Ageing skincare samples to try and although I don't really need anti-ageing products at the moment, I'm a firm believer of prevention before cure and if I can start getting into an anti-ageing skincare routine whilst I'm young, I would hope that it will help keep my skin youthful for years to come. Here's a little run down of my Arbonne trial findings:

Regenerating Toner

The 'Regenerating Toner' is rich in antioxidants and vitamins A, C and E and the product description says that it will 'regenerate skin tone and firmness to deliver younger looking skin." This is not the best toner I have ever used (I will stick firmly with Clarins for that one), but it is pretty good. I like the way it settles softly on my skin and applies really well. My face does feel a little bit firmer and I feel fresh after use. 

Extra Moisture Restore Cream

The restore cream was not what I expected when I first applied it. When you think of an 'extra moisturising' product you immediately jump to the conclusion that it will be thick, creamy and heavily applied, but this product is similar to a light serum in texture, that once applied makes your face feel silky smooth.  This has to be one of my favourite Arbonne products.

Corrective Eye Cream

The corrective eye cream promises to reduce the appearance of puffiness around the eyes and dark circles and I think it lives up to the promise pretty well. I have pretty bad dark circles due to years of being anaemic and I have tried an endless amount of beauty products to try reduce them. Unfortunately the eye cream does not banish my dark circles altogether, but it does help reduce them and my eyes feel a lot more alert from using this product.

Night Repair Creme

Over the last few years I haven't really cared much about my night time skin care regime, but after a bad few months of drying skin I started using moisturiser on an evening. These days I can't go to bed without layering on the night serums, moisturisers and eye products, the soothing products on my skin help me get to sleep. I love how soft this night repair creme leaves my face and the product itself isn't too heavy that you feel like you are wearing a lot of product before bed. The night creme is only lightly scented so it feels like you're wearing nothing on your face.

Intensive Renewal Serum

The Renewal Serum smells beautiful and applies really well, but unfortunately irritates my overly annoying sensitive skin. Looking at the other products, I'm sure this is on par and probably is a great product, but for now I've stopped using it.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality of Arbonne products and how lovely they make my skin feel. I'm usually skeptical about certain skin creams promising so many things and not living up to the product description, but so far these Arbonne products have done exactly what they have said on the description. As I'm getting older i'm becoming more aware of my skin care routine and I would like to consciously make an effort to look after my skin. A long with my healthy eating and these exciting Arbonne products, I think my skin should definitely be looked after.

Salcura 30 Day Challenge

When it comes to taking care of my skin, I'm a little bit lousy. I'm not one for waking up first thing in the morning and applying various types of lotions and potions and I've never really suffered from spots so I haven't really deemed it necessary to take as much care of my skin. One thing I have noticed as of late is the fact that I'm getting dry skin and maybe the days of neglecting my skincare routine are creeping up on me. When Salcura got in touch with me asking if I would take their 30 Day Challenge I decided to give it a go. I always say that prevention is better than the cure, so maybe it is time to start looking after my skin whilst I'm young to prevent getting worse skin in the future.

Here's all the 'lotions and potions' I've been sent as part of my challenge. It includes a liquid spray. gel serum, face wash and an intensive treatment. I've suffered from bouts of eczema throughout my life and I was advised to try these products. They are also great for people trying to get rid of spots and blackheads as the products are gentle on the skin and contains no nasty ingredients.

I was also given this Skin repair moisturiser, Body Hydrator and Face hydrator to help me combat my dry skin, as well as a packet of Salcura skincare wipes which I've already opened and use regularly. My skin is in pretty good condition and I don't know what to expect after using these for awhile, just like me, you'll have to wait to see the results.

#MCRFW Christmas Blogger Box

Christmas is almost over and the New Year is imminent. The trees will be down shortly and Christmas 2013 will be a distant memory. It's strange how fast Christmas creeps up on us all and then vanishes rather quickly. I always feel like I'm thrown into the festive wonderland at full speed and then halted as soon as I've got used to the idea. It feels like Christmas is never long enough to adjust to the festivity. Although Christmas is pretty much done and dusted this year, I just have enough time to show you my final Christmas treat from the team at Manchester Fashion Week. A few months ago you may have read that I'm now one of the Manchester Fashion Week Official bloggers, which means I have access all areas for when the week goes ahead and I'm one of the official reporters for the latest Manchester Fashion Week news. To help all their bloggers get into the Christmas spirit and to show their appreciation towards us, each of the bloggers have been presented with a blogger box full of wonderful goodies from various Manchester Fashion Week collaborators. One of the first and most exciting items was the festive personalised bauble for my Christmas tree from the company Getting Personal. I love the design and how sentimental the bauble is, I can't wait to hang this on my tree next year when I have my own place.

The other items in the box included a fab pair of tights from Pretty Polly, body treats and sweeties from Wilko's, haircare items from Aldi and this beautiful bracelet from the fashion and jewellery company Oliver Bonas. Also in the box was a pair Proporta gloves that can you can use whilst using your phone - they are probably going to be my most used item and the Filofax and notebook from Paperstone. I love the little pink filofax and I'm hoping it will help me get blog organised for 2014. The filofax is a wonderful pink colour and £2.00 of the proceeds go to Breast Cancer Research, a perfect excuse for buying one in the New Year.

Winter Treats:Dermalogica

When it comes to skincare Dermalogica are hailed the queen of brands, but it wasn't until recently that I've had the chance to try out the range. The online store http://beauty900.co.uk/ contacted me about their brand new website and their new Dermalogica collection to share with you all. Having never tried the brand, they offered to send me a few travel sized products. Dermalogica has always been on my top list of brands to try, but I just never got round to it. I have friends that rave about the products and when I go get my nails done at the salon, I always see an array of beautiful white bottles lining the beauty salons shelves.

The Dermalogica minis I received were the Special Cleansing Gel*, the Daily Microfoliant* and a trio of Age Smart* minis. The daily microfoliant has become one  of my favourite cleansing products since it arrived on my doorstep. According to Dermalogica's website the Microfoliant is a "rice-based exfoliating powder that activates upon contact with water, releasing Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes that micro-exfoliate dead cells, instantly leaving skin smoother and brighter." I've never really used a microfoliant in the past and was pleasantly surprised feeling my skin after use. My skin felt firmer, smoother and less dull. Combined with the Special Cleansing Gel the products both made my skin feel like I'd been at a beauty salon and had a facial. I've never really felt such instant results from a product before.

The Age Smart sample sizes also really surprised me. I found the primer rather delightful and the skin recovery really helped combat my dry skin in this hideous winter weather. At the moment I don't really have a bad word to say about Dermalogica and although I love the majority of brands I've reviewed, I've always noticed that one or two of them have a flaw. Dermalogica is such a trusted brand with professionals and home users alike that they have to stay on top of their game and so far as a first time user I'm impressed. Ciate Mini Mani Month

A part of me feels like I can't bring myself to say the 'C word'. It's hard to believe that Christmas is only 62 days away and it feels like yesterday when it was the middle of summer and I was laid with a golden beach beneath me sipping a Strawberry Daiquiri in Ibiza. I can still remember last Christmas as if it was last week. The decorations went up late as always, the irish family got really drunk and I couldn't stop drooling over my brand new Pandora bracelet, which subsequently got stolen a few months later when I was in London for my birthday. As a child, Christmas was always my favourite time of year and if I didn't have an advent calendar I'd turn from nice little girl, to someone deemed to be on the naughty list. As a grown up I still like to have an advent calendar, but the majority of chocolate delights are marketed for children. As much as I can still act like a small child when I want to, I think 'Forever Friends' isn't really my style.

 When I discovered that you can buy beauty based advent calendars I knew I had to have one this year. 

There are so many beauty advent calendars on the market and it isn't easy to choose which one to get. Some of them are far too overly priced and a lot of them even if they are worth it are still quite pricey. I purchased the Ciate Mini Mani Month from QVC for £37.50, which is really reasonable considering Selfridge's are selling them for £42.

If you have never heard of the brand Ciate before, they are a British nail polish brand that specialises in wonderful colours with a long lasting finish. I'm very picky when it comes to nail polishes and since I'm always busy I need something that won't chip. Ciate have always been my go-to brand and I find them to be the best non chip nail polishes I have used. I remember them releasing this advent calendar last year and being overly jealous as I watched bloggers open their doors to reveal an array of beautiful mini paint pots. This year it will be me opening my advent calendar and I'm far too excited. 

If you're not a fan of nail polish, there are many other beauty calendars available from different retailers.

Benefit will be bringing out their 'Count to Love' set which is made up of 24 different Benefit samples and costs £50. I would love this advent calendar, but for me it's far too pricey for such small products. If you've never tried Benefit before this calendar gives you the opportunity to try almost the whole range, but if you're a diehard Benefit fan I think it's better investing in one or two full sized products.

If you would like a selection of high end cosmetics the Selfridges beauty box will be the one for you, but expect to pay premium prices. The Selfridges beauty box has 24 different products from Lancome to YSL, but costs £84. If you have the money to splurge i'd say go for it as you would get lots of lovely treats, but for the average young beauty enthusiast I think this will be far out of their price range.

The You Beauty Box is great for premium beauty products, but at a lower cost than the Selfridges box. This includes more niche products and some brands that are not always well known, but it's worth it for the discovery. If there's any other beauty box i'd love besides my Ciate one it's this.

If you're on a tight budget and you're simply looking to sample a few new beauty products, the Boots beauty box will be up your street. This box costs £30 and includes a variety of items from their Seventeen range, perfume samples, nail inc and many more. I love the look of this box and would definitely like to try it at some point, but I'm unsure whether the products inside it would be worth my while.

Finally, the Babor box is something I stumbled across online and I've never heard before. I thought I'd mention it as I haven't seen it considered if any other beauty advent calendar posts. The Babor box is full of collagen boosting liquids and creams for those seeking eternal youth and beautiful skin this Christmas. This 24 day course retails at £164, but buying this set will save you over 50% as it is priced at £64.

Vita Bella Repair and Protect Gel

Although I'm a beauty blogger, I fully admit that my skincare routine is dreadful. I accumulate masses of skincare products that I never use and when I get asked about my beauty routine whilst browsing beauty concessions I always lie. My mouth spills out: " Yes I do cleanse, tone and moisturise on a daily basis" yet my head says 'who on earth has time to do all that in a morning'. I'm more of a 'get up and go' type of girl. I put effort into doing my hair and applying my makeup, but anything else unless its a night out isn't deemed essential. Finding a skincare product that I will use on a regular basis is rare and the Vita Bella Aloe Vera & Olive Oil Repair and Protect Gel is one of those lucky products that has made the cut.

I don't know whether it's the fresh tingling sensation it leaves on my skin on a morning or the fact that the texture is wonderfully soft, but either way I'm hooked on this product. Anyone who has been anemic will know that dry skin can be such a horrible side effect and when you have the tiredness and baggy eyes to contend with everyday, dry skin is something you definitely want to avoid. I was recommended this product by a PR when I asked for products that are suitable for dry skin and so far I'm loving the results.

According to the website, Vitabella has over 200 natural compounds made up of 20 minerals, 18 amino acids and 12 vitamins that creates a soothing and anti-inflammatory effect and the olive oil helps moisturise dried up areas and maintain hydration. The Geranium element of the product provides the refreshing vibe that you get once it's applied and Hyaluronic Acid is a mosituriser that can hold '1000 times its weight in water to keep the skin hydrated'.

After using this product only a handful of times I noticed quite a difference and that my skin feels so much smoother. I've been using it mainly as a base for my makeup so that it doesn't dry out my skin and something to refresh my face one I've taken off all my makeup at night. With the cold weather settling in and snow predictions on the way, it's a good idea to start stocking up on beauty items that will help combat the distressing signs of winter and the Vitabella Repair and Protect Gel is definitely a product I recommend putting on your shopping list.

Battle of The Body Oils

I'm currently suffering from the notorious Norovirus, the one that drains you from every angle and takes no mercy on your body. The whole family has it at the moment and I'm feeling weak as hell. I came home from work on Friday and haven't stopped vomiting until today. Food feels impossible to eat, water takes disgusting and I know for a fact I'm going to be at least 4 lbs lighter by end of today. Luckily for you, I had already started writing parts of this review before I came ill and I thought it would be a shame of wasting my bed bound day without attempting to continue this post, especially when body oil can be quite therapeutic in times like these.

Today I'd like to introduce you to my two favourite body oils on the market - The Organic Golden Carmellia oil and the Oil Arganic from the Tan Organic range. Being completely honest I've never really tried any body oils before these came through the post, but ever since using them for the first time I'm completely hooked.

Both oils can be used for the hands, feet, hair, stretch marks nails, bodies and scars making them very versatile products, however after using both the products I've realised that the strengths differ between the two. The *Organic Golden Camellia oil is fantastic for the skin and I love how it effortlessly penetrates the body without leaving too much residue. I have been using this product on my stretch marks and although my stretch marks are beyond repair, i've noticed my skin have felt a little bit softer and it's gaining a little bit of vitality. If you're a lover of animals, you will be pleased to know that this product is vegan and does not test on animals making this the perfect all round natural product. If there's any criticism and there's very little, I'd say it doesn't have much of a scent and I like products that leave me feeling fragrant. The Organic Golden Camellia oil is so gentle that I've recently been using a tiny amount as a makeup base and i've noticed my foundation glides on a lot smoother and that my pores don't feel as blocked.

When I first used the Tan Organic, one of the sister products of the *Oil Arganic, I was left pretty disappointed. I still believe it was due to my limited experience with fake tan at that time period, but unfortunately when I first applied the Tan Organic I looked like I had a skin disease where the oil had crusted over my body. Due to my past unpleasant experience I was pretty hesitant about using this product. I worried whether it would make my skin look too oily or bring me out in spots, but I couldn't be more wrong. I'm absolutely in love with this oil and can't use it enough. The Oil Arganic is full to the brim of exotic oils that work together to deliver a gentle oil to give you softer skin. For fake tan addicts out there, the Oil Arganic works well to prolong the Tan Organic to give you a longer lasting tan for the autumn as well as making your skin softer and more vibrant. I've been using this oil mainly in my hair. A few sprintz of this oil with my conditioner makes an excellent conditioning treatment and after blowdrying, my hair is softer and shinier. I also use this oil after shaving to give my legs a shinier, softer complexion. I've realised that the Tan Organic releases more oil than the Camellia so I'd be reluctant to use it on my face or somewhere that I could be prone to get spots, but for everything else, this product is spot on.

In this battle of the body oils, I'd have to say they are both winners. I'm using them both the same amount and I'm really surprised with my recent obsession with them. Like all skincare, it's all about choosing the correct product for you and in this case, I've got two products perfect for many different things.

Smask Caviar Face Mask

Today has been quite hectic and I've worn myself out at gym, therefore I've decided to treat myself to some pampering courtesy of the SMask Caviar Face Mask. I find face masks a great way to wind down after a long difficult day and they make your skin feel silky smooth just before bedtime. I've always wondered about the hype surrounding caviar face masks and whether they work. After all they're a lot more expensive than the 99p face masks you can buy at your local beauty store. The SMask Caviar face masks retail at around £20, but are they worth the money?

Pros

• They left my face feeling rather refreshed and softer. 
• It's less messier than a conventional face mask. The mask is already prepared for you and all you need to do is rest the mask on your face and let it do it's magic.
• Doesn't stick to your hair as much. It's advised that you tie your hair back, but I forgot to do it. Most face masks will have mucked up my hair within five seconds, but my trapped hair remained nice and clean.
• The face mask is really relaxing. There's very little you need to do and you get a lot of benefits. I had a headache before I applied the mask, but it vanished all the stress.

Cons

• It's not an attractive look. Most face masks don't look that attractive, but I find that this mask in particular makes you look like a blue plastic alien. Of course I took a blog photo for reviewing purposes, but I think that's probably the least attractive photo I've ever added to this website.
• It's rather expensive. You only get 3 masks and the product costs over £20. Granted, that is probably the amount that you would pay at a salon and it does include caviar, but as normal working person the product is edging over my spending limit.

With the Smask Caviar face masks, I think the pro's definitely outweigh the cons. It's an easy to use product and great for if you're in need of pampering before a night out. The price is a little bit too much for a regular face mask, but perfect for the odd indulgence. If you can face resembling a blue alien for the evening, I'd say give it a go, it's definitely done wonders for my skin.

Having suffered from Eczema and dry skin for most of my childhood, I've always looked out for the latest skin care products to hide problems areas and help improve my skin. When I came across the miracle oil by Derma Eraze, I knew I had to try it.

The Miracle oil is a blend of natural ingredients, made to stimulate, moisturise and heal skin. When I first poured the product into my hands, I was shocked to see how light the oil felt. Sometimes skin care products can be quite heavy and rather than moisturising, they have the ability to clog up your pores and make your skin worse. This product absorbed easily into my skin, leaving no excess oil and a lovely, soft texture.
