Valentines Outfit: Casual yet Classy

Valentines Day is usually full of surprises and its often difficult to know what to wear. Unless you have a set reservation at a restaurant, your partner could be plotting anything and I am probably the worst for dressing for the wrong occasion on a good day.

This outfit was inspired by the white Henri Lloyd jumper I recently came across. As a child I spent my time split between two different locations - one being Huddersfield the small town in which I grew up in and the other being in the middle of the irish sea - literally. For as long as I have been on this planet and a long time before, my dad has always had a yacht. He loves sailing more than anything in this world and as a child we would spend nearly every weekend galavanting to Wales and spending time sailing around the coastline. In fact, my parents first took me sailing when I was only a few months old. Growing up spending so much time sailing, I was introduced to many of the local yacht clubs. Some of them would be tiny, not really extravagant, but then you would get one of two that easily made you feel out of place. You would see these women with perfectly tousled hair, radiant skin, wearing their nautical inspired jumpers and looking completely flawless despite spending days fighting off sea air and salt. You instantly knew they were of a different kind, I was from a small boat, but they were cruising around in mega yachts. In fact, they probably looked so immaculate because they had their own crew. Over the years I managed to meet a lot of these women and the more I saw their lavish lifestyles, the more I wanted to be like them.

Henri Lloyd are clothing line, known for being one of the original British sailing brands. Despite being quite far from the sea, the brand was created in Manchester and were the first people to use Velcro in clothing as well as manufacture Bri-Nylon one of the first waterproof brands. These days Henri Lloyd clothing is a well known brand amongst celebrities and readily available amongst high street stores. A sentence driven from the website sums the brand up perfectly by stating:" Today Henri Lloyd products contain a unique blend of heritage, modernity and technical excellence, whilst always staying true to the sea."

This Henri Lloyd jumper was chosen for my valentines outfit as it is casual, yet classy and will keep you warm whilst the weather is still rather cold. I've teamed this jumper up with a pair of Topshop denim jeans, a pair of Kurt Geiger Ariana booties, a Mulberry Small Suffolk handbag and I have finished the outfit off with one of my favourite red lipsticks, the YSL Rouge Rock. Volumised hair with loose curls would look great with this outfit or even a beehive style up do.

What would you wear as a casual look this Valentines Day?

Valentines Day Perfume

I have two major obsessions in my life and when I say obsessions, I mean verging on OCD. The first is checking my emails all through the day, literally every five minutes. This often causes me to wake up at unearthly hours and check for new mail that I know probably won't be there. My logic seems to fail as not many people would really go out of their way to send an email at 3am. My next obsession is perfume. Big bottles, small bottles, flower scented or musk, I can't get enough of them. I'm a perfume addict and I've never been ashamed of it. Don't you just love walking past someone in the streets and being hit by a beautiful scent of wild flowers and fruits? I'm instantly drawn to women with an impeccable taste of fragrance, so god knows how the male species manage to control themselves. With Valentine's day just under two weeks away I thought it would best to show you some of my high street favourites.

  • La Vie Est Belle - Lancome
I was luckily bought this by my mother at Christmas and I haven't stopped wearing it. It smells really feminine combining citrus fruits with a warm, sweet floral scent. Having managed to go through almost three perfume bottles in the last few months, I'm happy to say this scent is lasting me the longest.

  • Jimmy Choo - Flash
Those who love the original Jimmy Choo perfume will fall in love with this new scent. I've always admired the Jimmy Choo perfumes and when I had the opportunity to try this the other day, I felt so sad leaving the shop knowing that right now I can't afford it. The bottle is very glitzy and stylish, which would look perfect in your handbag or in your bedroom. The perfume exhibits a very fruity and floral scent with base notes of pink pepper, tangerine and strawberry.

  • Marc Jacobs - Dot
Marc Jacobs Dot is perfect for anyone that likes quirky designs and wants to stand out from the crowd. I've always been an admirer of Marc Jacobs and his perfumes simply evoke a sense of his crazy design work.  The perfume is very fruity with an undertone of vanilla and musk. Great for those who perfume a subtly sweet scent rather than something over powering.

  • YSL - Manifesto
I love this scent, but unfortunately I have just run out. The YSL manifesto is great for those who like to appear sophisticated and sexy. The bottle is curvy, quite simplistic yet glamorous  I love the purple detailing and the signature YSL logo. YSL manifesto is very floral and feminine with top notes of Lily and Blackcurrant and base notes of Cedar wood, Sandalwood and Vanilla.

Finally, here's my very latest perfume and the scent I'll be wearing this Valentine's day - Especially Escada
From the moment I walked into the perfume shop and tried this product, I knew I wanted it. It was the bottle that drew me in with it's beautifully carved golden top and the pink colouring of the scent.

Unfortunately saving for a wedding has made me sacrifice my perfume addiction and I had to pull away. A few weeks later, I received an email from a wonderful PR lady asking if I would like to try any of their new fragrances. When I saw this bottle being mentioned, I kindly asked if I could have a sample. Happily expecting a vial, I told myself that I would be able to carry that around until I eventually could afford the bottle. Imagine my surprise when I opened my parcel and there was a full sized bottle of the perfume - doing my job definitely has its perks.

Especially Escada is a very feminine and playful scent. Like the advertisement for the perfume, I can easily see myself wearing a little pink dress and picking roses wearing this product. It's fruit and fresh, making this a perfect waking up product. When I spritz this perfume, it makes me feel more awake, more vibrant. The perfume smells of pear, rose, ambrette seeds, Ylang Ylang and musky notes, all combining to make a joyful, bright and alluring spray. When a perfume makes you feel so good about yourself, you know you have to have it. This perfume has my personality to a tee and I can't wait to wear it for my special valentines evening.

Ads of The 20th Century: Book Review

After a long hard day at university, I love delving into my fashion book collection and being tucked up in bed skimming through the pages. Whilst shopping in Waterstone's a few days ago, this little book caught my attention and although I'm on a spending ban, my partner told me I had to buy it.

This wonderful hardback book is by Heinmann Nieda and it collates some of the best fashion advertorials of the 20th century, coupled with famous quotes on the fashion industry. The book documents 365 days of the year and is supposed to be read like a diary. Simply pick the day you're on or even look at your birthday and you will see a fashion ad and a quote to give you daily inspiration.

" Fashions fade, style is eternal" Yves Saint Laurent

"If you can't be elegant, at least be extravagant" Franco Moschino

"They went into my closets looking for skeletons, but thank God, all they found were shoes, beautiful shoes" - Imelda Marcos

The book cost me £17.99 and I think it's a fantastic price. Glossy pages full of amazing photography, bound with beautiful red fabric and 365 pages of pure fashion heaven. I know exactly which book I'll be reading in bed tonight.

YSL, MUA and Jubilee Spirit.

The Jubilee may be over, but there's no need for you ditch the red, white and blue colour scheme. There's lots of amazing Jubilee style colours still on the high street and with block colours being a summer essential, there's no reason why you can't carry on the blue, red and white trend. During the weekend, I managed to do a little shopping and couldn't resist buying these two beauties.

This is the YSL Rouge Pur Couture in shade 1. On Saturday, me and my fiance will be hosting our vintage inspired engagement party and the saleswoman at House of Fraser managed to convince me that this lipstick is a timeless classic, adding a vintage scarlet appeal to any outfit. At £23, YSL is a premium brand lipstick, but does it live up to expectations?

Firstly I love the detailing on the shiny gold packaging. Shiny gold evokes a sense of luxury and with the embedded YSL logo, the packaging looks classy and timeless. The lipstick itself also has the logo engraved. You can really admire craftsmanship gone into the detailing of the lipstick.

The YSL lipstick glides on like a dream. Coupled with the YSL Touche Eclat, this lipstick is an essential for the perfect pout. Simply highlight around your lips and then cover with this beautiful siren red. The product has SPF 15 and really helps moisturise my lips. As for the colour, it managed to last almost 24 hours without re-application, making this perfect for those summer celebrations and BBQ's.

Sticking to the Red, White and Blue colour scheme, I managed to pick up this new MUA eyeshadow for £1 at Superdrug. Many bloggers have raved about MUA products and I'm definitely joining the cult. MUA offers such fantastic cosmetics at a bargain price, making them affordable to everyone. This baby blue colour known as 'PEARL' is a perfect shade for summer beach frolicking. The powder applies incredibly easy, but as with most eyeshadows, it is always best to use a primer if you want the colour to show its true potential.

So here is my Jubilee inspired makeup, ready to hit the town and celebrate all things British.

How did you celebrate the Jubilee?
