Travel Food: A Thai Hidden Gem

When asked where has been most memorable place I've ever dined at, my answer will always be the Rom Mai Yai Restaurant, in Phrae, Thailand. Earlier this year I was incredibly lucky to be invited on my first ever press trip, a trip to discover the hidden gems of Thailand. Thai food has always been my favourite cuisine and if I was ever in the predicament where I would have to chose my last ever supper, it would probably be something that involved cashew nuts and tofu or a tofu Thai Red Curry. The people of Thailand know how to pack tonnes of flavour into their dishes without it being overpowering or too hot and although they love their meat, it is easy to make a vegetarian version of a lot of their dishes and I found all the restaurants I visited in Thailand to be very accommodating.

During my trip I visited a lot of Thai restaurants, but the Rom Mai Yai restaurant in Phrae forever sticks in my mind because it is probably one of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever seen. When Travel Bag got in touch and asked me to write about my favourite restaurant abroad to celebrate their new interactive travel maps, I knew Rom Mai Yai was the perfect place to talk about.

The restaurant is situated in the north of Thailand in a province called Phrae. Phrae isn't one of those places that automatically springs to mind when thinking of a trip to Thailand, but this town has so much to offer with so many temples, historic places of interest and wonderful places to eat. This particular restaurant is placed over a giant pond with seated booths dipped in water so it feels like you're floating in the water as you eat and in this pond were gigantic Koi carp of many different colours swimming around. The restaurant is large with outdoor and indoor seating areas, a very large outside bar and even their own ice-cream and smoothie bar. When we visited, there was a man playing acoustic guitar and singing whilst we ate and drank the night away, I wanted to stay there all night.

As a vegetarian I often find it hard to find food and before I travelled to Thailand, I spent hours wondering what I would eat. Of course when you visit a different country, the food is never the same as your local takeaway. It's authentic and with authenticity comes different ingredients and different styles of cooking, as a vegetarian you have to be slightly cautious. But as mentioned previously the Thai people were ever so accommodating and the food at Rom Mai Yai was exceptional. I dined on stir fried morning glory, traditional hot soups, tofu stirfrys and deep fried tofu as well lots of jasmine rice. There was so much variety and I loved every mouthful.

Although the Rom Mai Yai is a little bit off the beaten track and hard to find, I would say to anyone visiting the area that is worth seeking out. It really is a hidden gem of Thailand and well worth the trip.

Where has been the best place you have eaten abroad?

Turtle Bay Huddersfield

Last week I was kindly invited to the new Turtle Bay restaurant in my hometown Huddersfield to learn more about Caribbean food and take a first glance at the restaurant before it opens to the public next week. The building was previously occupied by the restaurant Cotton Factory and before it shut down late last year, the place was looking a little bit worse for wear (even though it did do great pizzas). That particular side of town needed something more modern, upbeat and something with a bit of character to attract new customers and to keep up with other neighbouring cities. Although Huddersfield does have some great restaurants, many of them are quite out of town if you're looking to sample alternative cuisines and not head to the nearest chain bar. Turtle Bay may be a chain bar, but it has already added some much character to that small part of town before even opening and after the food I tasted a few days ago, I'm pretty sure it's going to be a hit with locals and visitors alike.

Turtle Bay is a restaurant that prides itself on individuality and authentic, hearty Caribbean food. The chain has 25 restaurants and all of which have been uniquely designed so that every restaurant has a different aesthetic. The Huddersfield restaurant features two rooms - a restaurant and a bar, both which are decorated in traditional Caribbean design with wooden beams, steel can lighting, bright and bold colours and an open kitchen so that all the aromas can whet your appetite as soon as you enter the building. One of my favourite parts of the Huddersfield design is the painting of the Afro-Caribbean woman on the left side of the building as soon as you walk in. It is highly detailed, instantly grabs your attention and looks really trendy. Rumour has it that Turtle Bay commissioned a local artist to paint this piece, but the rest is unknown.

After a grand tour of the building, we were sat down in the restaurant area and told the history of Caribbean food and the secret ingredients that go into a few of the dishes whilst drinking one too many Rum Punches - a drink I would highly recommend if you intend on visiting anytime soon. The Turtle Bay menu is quite diverse and caters for many dietary requirements, although if you're afraid of heat, you'll have to be cautious when eating here.

One of the main ingredients in most of the dishes is the infamous Scotch Bonnet pepper. If you haven't heard of a scotch bonnet, the scotch bonnet is possibly one of the hottest peppers around and if you ate one of the seeds, you would know about it. Thankfully Turtle Bay use this ingredient discreetly in their dishes and none of them are that hot that they would blow your head off, but a few dishes may have the more heat-intolerant diners in a sweaty disposition.

As a vegetarian I'm always intrigued by new restaurants and the dishes they have to offer. I'm always on the lookout for restaurants that offer something that I may not have tried before and that doesn't contain the words 'goats cheese' pr 'spicy bean burger'. Don't get me wrong, I love both of them but when that's the only thing you get offered nearly every time you step into a restaurant, it makes eating out a bit boring. Especially when your dining partners are raving about their new and exciting dishes.
A lot of restaurants can be quite unimaginative when it comes to vegetarians, but not Turtle Bay.

One of the dishes I was lucky to sample was the Rastafari Rundown. A traditional Caribbean dish for Rastafarians who's diets prohibit meat and fish and very occasionally, diary. This dish consists of butter beans, sweetcorn, sweet potato, herbs and root vegetables all in a coconut broth. It is served with rice'n' peas and dumplings. There's also a vegan version available on request.

The Turtle Bay restaurant in Huddersfield is open from next Friday and is definitely worth a visit. If you're looking for somewhere a bit quirky and that serves flavoursome food at relatively affordable prices, this place is for you. I cannot wait to go back with my husband.

Have you been to Turtle Bay before?

Cheers to the Weekend

This week has been a long week. The weather has been dull and gloomy, the mornings have been brisk and the nights have been dark. Autumn is finally here and summer is feeling like one distant memory. These days there's nothing I love more than coming home, getting into my loungewear and cuddling up on the sofa watching Netflix. Netflix was made for this time of year. Those nights when it's too cold to go out and those days when there's non-stop rain. Of course another thing I look forward to is a cosy night in with my favourite tipple. Although Gin is often associated with much warmer weather, there's nothing I enjoy more than a classic G&T on a Friday night.

Bloom London Dry Gin* has recently joined forces with Fentimans to bring us a distinctly unique, flavoursome, new kind of G&T. The brands have combined their knowledge and expertise to give us a perfectly blended botanical version of the classic thirst-quencher. There are two types of the Fentimans G&T collaboration with Bloom , one with classic lemonade and the other with rose lemonade. For those who find Gin often too tart like myself, the rose lemonade offers the perfect solution, adding sweetness to the beverage and creating a more subtle flavour.

I've always been a fan of Gin and these G&Ts not only taste great, but they come in the classic, Instagram worthy Fentimans bottles making Friday nights in more fun.

Also, a little bit of good news! I have been nominated for my first ever blogger award in the beauty category. Please give me some love and vote for me here. It would really mean a lot to me.

What is your favourite Friday night tipple?

Joules Design a Pair of Wellies Competition

I don't usually promote competitions on my blog, but when this email popped up in my inbox I knew it was something too good not share. Joules*have launched a fun competition inviting all budding designers and wellington enthusiasts to design a pair of Joules wellies. The winner will see their design put into production ( with all proceeds going to Charitably Joules) as well as winning a luxury Forest Holiday worth £5,000. If only I had an artistic bone in my body, I would love to enter something like this. Unfortunately my drawing only extends to stick men and flowers.

When I was younger I pretty much lived in wellies and even now wellingtons are a staple accessory in my life because of all the outdoors activities I do during the summer. I love Joules because their designs stand out from the crowd and you can always find something more feminine and unique than the standard green wellington boot. Above are just three of my favourites from the website. To enter the competition all you have to do is the visit  http://getcreative.joules.com/.

Let me know if you end up entering!

Amsterdam Bucket List

I can't believe we're almost at the end of October. I've been dreaming about my trip to Amsterdam for last few months and it's finally almost here. In three days my husband and I will be jetting off to Amsterdam for a romantic weekend away together. The trip has come at a really good time as both of us have had a lot of stress in our lives over the last few weeks due to my ongoing health issues and we both need a much deserved break. I've been to Amsterdam several times before, but when I was too young to really experience it. The last time I visited Amsterdam was when I was thirteen on a cycling holiday with my parents. I don't remember much apart from thinking how pretty Amsterdam looked and eating lots of cheese. Amsterdam was also the place I need to thank for my ongoing obsession with mayonnaise. I used to hate it before I went to Amsterdam and now I cannot get enough of it, even though nothing quite compares to Dutch mayo. Although I've had the pleasure of visiting Amsterdam several times during my childhood, my husband is an Amsterdam virgin and I intend on showing him all the best bits of this beautiful city.

Cruise along the canal at night
Take a trip to the Van Gogh and Rembrandt Museums
Stroll through Vondel Park
Buy chips and mayo from a street vendor
Visit the Red Light District
Go to the Ann Frank Museum
Drink at a 'Browns Cafe' aka a traditional Dutch pub
Go for High Wine
Take a tour of the Heineken Experience
Window shop at Hoofstraat - the Amsterdam equivalent of Bond Street.
Go vintage shopping at 9 Streets
Visit a food stall and buy some cheese to take home
Visit a Sky Bar in Amsterdam...I'm currently on a mission to visit a Sky Bar in every city I visit.

What would be on your Amsterdam bucket list?

Autumn Interior Inspiration

When I was younger I was fascinated by the world of interior design. I would watch a lot of interior design shows and when I was 15 I convinced my parents to allow me to design my own bedroom. I loved how the smallest little details could transform a room and I liked the idea of injecting your personality into a room to make it feel like your own or a place everyone could associate with you. When my husband and I moved in together, we really struggled to add our own personality to own rented house. We're not allowed to add many holes in the walls (despite us both loving paintings), we are unable to paint the rooms or change the carpets so we had to work around what we had, which made things a bit mismatched and not very good for someone as OCD as myself about design. When we moved in together I was also a student and it was the first time both of us had properly lived in an unfurnished house. We had very little money and relied for the first few months on donated furniture and the odd bits we could scrape together with the money we saved up. Fast forward a year and a half and we're still living in our rented little house, but both of us have a lot more money to play around with and we are determined to replace some of our older bits and pieces and make things a little bit more cosy.

Recently I've putting together a mood board of things I would like to make our house feel a bit more autumnal. Above are a few of my favourite item from around the web. Primark has some lovely furnishings at the moment and most of the items on my current wish list are from here. For this particular mood board I've chosen this lovely fluffy pillow and the Deer pillow and the wanderlust bedding as I would love inject a bit of travel inspiration around the house. I'm also loving The Range recently and struggle to drag myself out of there on a weekend. My current faves are this cute rabbit pillow, the world map alarm clock and the bamboo tree - my parents used to have a really large tree in the corner of their living room and I always thought it added character to the space. As my husband and I are obsessed with rabbits, I have also chosen this beautiful rabbit ornament from House of Fraser for my wish list.

Photo Credits: Wild Water - CVGALEN
A lot of my interior inspiration comes from a website called Homify. It's like Pinterest made specifically for interior design and you can create your own mood boards for your future home as well as browse the site for products and even source tradesmen for your jobs. Of course living in rented accommodation means we're nowhere near that stage yet, but we are saving up for a house of our own and our imagination has been running away with this. I'm already dreaming of quirky feature walls like this one above, combined with classic antique furniture. For now, I'll just have to stick with making my millions of mood boards and hope that one day I can make them a reality.

What is on your interiors wish list?

Halloween with The Biscuiteers

When I was younger Halloween was one of my favourite nights of the year. I wasn't allowed trick or treating as my parents didn't approve, but we still used to celebrate in our own way by carving pumpkins, eating halloween cakes and sweets and watching scary films together as a family. As I've grown up, I feel like I've grown out of Halloween. Most of my friends still love dressing up and going for wild nights out in town, but these I'm more of a 'get into my pjs and watch a film' type of girl on the spookiest night of the year. The Biscuiteers are a company I've heard so much about and have longed to try over the last few months and last week I had an email asking if I would like to try their new Halloween range.

The Biscuiteers was founded by Harriet Hastings and her husband Stevie Congdon and launched online in September 2007. Their mission statement was simple - 'why send flowers when you can send biscuits instead' and the company immediately began to flourish. Since their launch back in 2007, the Biscuiteers have worked with many leading names in fashion including collaborations with Anya Hindmarch, Mulberry, Swatch and Burberry as well as a limited edition tin to celebrate Selfridges' 100th birthday and bespoke biscuits for the launch of Harvey Nichols 4th floor. When it comes to gifting biscuits and special occasions, there's clearly no-one better than the Biscuiteers.

The Biscuiteers have an extensive Halloween collection from finely decorated Sugar Candy skulls, to personalised halloween tins. They also have a Scooby Do collection and spooky Halloween cupcakes. The set shown above is the Halloween Big Biscuit Card*. Inside the illustrated box there are five classic Halloween characters - the wicked witch, Frankenstein, a Ghost, a Mummy and of course Dracula. The box retails at £20 and is the perfect gift for adults looking to unleash their inner child on halloween or subtly add a bit of Halloween madness to their household like myself who isn't a massive fan of the day, but still wants to celebrate. These would also make perfect gifts for a children's halloween party.

I was super impressed by the quality of these biscuits and I have shown them to everyone who has come to my house. The biscuits have such a wonderful charm about them - you can tell they are made with precision and care, it will be hard resisting these until Halloween.

If you fancy winning a box of these for yourself, all you have to do is fill out the form below. The giveaway is open to those over 18 years old and live in the UK.

The Victoria Quarter, Leeds: Hollywood Shopping Event

Last week my bestie and I went to the Hollywood themed shopping event at The Victoria Quarter, Leeds for a night of glitz and glamour and discounts galore. When we arrived, we were blown away by the decor, the ambience and the amount of effort that went into this event that I knew from that moment that I had to share my experience with you. A shopping event of this magnitude happens only once a year at The Victoria Quarter and this year was all about old school Hollywood. There were makeovers, black and white films playing in the Harvey Nichols Expresso bar, free popcorn on every corner and of course, prosecco in every store to help whet your shopping appetite.

Along with prosecco and canapés, many of the stores had additional activities going on throughout the night.  Sandro had cocktails supplied by The Alchemist,  Folli Follie hired the wonderful Willa Gebbie to do illustrations and had their own nail and makeup bar, Ted Baker were handing out Ted Baker popcorn bags, Kiehl's had a photo-booth and were handing out samples and Mulberry were giving everyone a chance to win a Mulberry handbag by giving out keys around the event and allowing people to test their chances at opening their glass cabinet.

After browsing a few of our favourite stores, Lizi and I went to check out Culter and Gross who kindly invited us in for a chat. Culter and Gross are a luxury eyewear brand founded in 1969 by Graham Culter and Tony Gross. The company have their flagship store in Knightsbridge, London but have recently opened their only northern store at The Victoria Quarter, Leeds. Culter and Gross glasses have been worn by numerous celebrities from Rihanna to Sir Elton John and according to staff they attract a very loyal fan base due to their quintessential British style and exquisite designs and of course the quality of the frames.

Culter and Gross have such a wide selection of glasses that it is almost impossible to find a pair that you will not like.  The vintage collection seen above is full of quirky, bold designs in a variety of colours and they also sell more traditional style frames for those looking for something a bit more subtle.I left the store wanting several £300 a pair glasses - a pair of heart shaped sunnies,  a dark turtle coloured pair and those seen below. I had to keep telling myself that I can't afford a pair yet now, but I haven't ruled it out for the future. I have convinced myself if I find a pair of glasses that really suit me and I have spent that much money on them, I would probably wear them for once and my eyesight would seen some improvement. Although I'm not sure I trust myself yet, I should probably try wearing my pair from Specsavers first.

3 Great Days out in Thurlestone

Thurlestone is an historic village in South Devon, home to a beautiful links golf course, a 13th century church, a busy village shop and a traditional village pub. Known by many because of the iconic Thurlestone Rock (the inspiration for numerous artists including the celebrated painter Turner), this fascinating settlement is nestled on a captivating stretch of coastline, with a coloured history of shipwrecks and smugglers! Where you are interested in the history of the area, a walking break admiring the beautiful views along the South West Coast Path, or a relaxing getaway enjoying good food, Thurlestone could be the perfect holiday destination for you.

Here are just three great things to do for those visiting this pretty village, whatever the time of year!

1. Enjoy a day at the beach!

Thurlestone is positioned on the very edge of the South West Coast path, providing access to many pretty beaches. Head to South Milton Sands where you can try rockpooling or surfing, or why not bring your dog and let them stretch their legs before enjoying a paddle in the sea (weather depending!). If you are visiting in the winter months, why not enjoy a bracing stroll along to the Yarmer Beach via Leasfoot beach, to blow away those cobwebs before heading to the traditional pub The Village Inn, where you can warm up by the roaring wood burner with a glass of real ale.

2. Spend the day getting sporty

Whilst Thurlestone is a relatively small village on the South Devon coastline, it does offer a number of great facilities for those with a preference for sport. With a fabulous cliff top gold course and 12 tennis courts the opportunities are endless for those looking to enjoy a sports-filled day in a spectacular location. After all this activity why not relax and book a beauty treatment or a spa experience (including use of the indoor pool, hydrotherapy pool, steam room and sauna) at the luxurious Voyage spa in Thurlestone.

3. Explore the South West Coast Path

The South West Coast Path offers many walking opportunities for those staying in Thurlestone. Explore the surrounding area on foot - head towards the beach at Bantham in one direction, where you can walk along the sand admiring views across to Burgh Island with its art deco hotel - the inspiration for some of Agatha Christies greatest works. Heading from Thurlestone in the opposite direction, visit the former smuggler's haunt of Hope Cove, to enjoy a well-deserved drink or something to eat at the Cove Cafe bar, whilst looking out over the bay, before retracing your steps back to Thurlestone.

If you would be interested in booking a holiday in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, find out more about Thurlestone cottages here.

Sunday Thoughts & Style: Fur Collared Coats

This weekend like many others around the world, I'm a Rugby widow. Yes, you heard that right. My husband has been watching the Rugby all weekend and I'm here on my lonesome, own-some blogging. Do I mind? Of course I don't. In fact, I love seeing my husband so passionate about something like I'm passionate about blogging and writing. I'm a firm believer of spending time apart from from your partner and developing your own interests. It gives my husband and I something to talk about and makes us miss each other more when we are apart. I like the fact that I can run upstairs and blog and he's happy to catch up on a few of his TV shows that I have very little interest in, then after a long hard day we snuggle up on the sofa and chat about what we both missed. I admit, I'm a solitary creature and if I don't get my one hour of alone time a day, I tend to go a bit crazy. That's why I love blogging. It allows me to relax, switch my mind off all life's little stresses and I can dream about other things and write about what I love.

What I'm currently loving is this new jacket I picked up from River Island yesterday, seriously i'm in love. I actually went into River Island to pick up a cape coat that I ordered online and it didn't quite fit, so in the end I swapped it for this little beauty. I love Khaki greens and fur collars in the autumn, it reminds me of all the seasonal colours seen around us. During my little shopping trip yesterday...well I say little, but it was quite a lot. I had just been paid and went a little crazy. I picked up two beautiful bras from Ann Summers - 2 for £30 and a gorgeous pair of boots from Office. They are online exclusive and can be ordered from the store, but someone had returned these yesterday because they didn't fit and these fit me perfectly, I'm pretty sure it was fate.

Have you done anything fun this weekend?

DIY Autumn Beauty Treatments

As the seasons change, so should your skincare regime. The weather is harsh during the autumn and winter and rain and wind can bring a wide range of weather related ailments to your skin. Without the right protective skincare, you are more likely to be prone to weather related damage such as uncomfortable dry skin around the face and lips. Unfortunately not all of us can afford to be buying new skincare as soon as the weather changes, but fear not, there are a few simple beauty treatments you can make for less than £10 with ingredients that are most likely to be in your store cupboard. With a helping hand from Mira Showers and Midas Touch Crafts, I have put together a few skincare items that you can make comfortably at your home in less than fifteen minutes.

Face Scrubs are a great way of cleansing the skin and getting rid of any dryness. Oats have been used for years to combat dry skin and blackheads and this simple recipe should leave your skin feeling soft and smooth.

Ingredients: Oats, a fresh Lemon and Honey.

Take the oats and add half a squeezed lemon and a tablespoon of honey, then stir together.

Next, lets make a lip scrub. Lip scrubs help erase dry skin from the lips and leave them feeling wonderfully nourished.

Ingredients: Honey, Brown Sugar, Coconut Oil, Cinnamon Powder, Cocoa Powder and a small container.

Use the brown sugar and flavour using cocoa powder and cinnamon. Then add honey and a little bit of coconut oil and stir together. Add to a small container.

Finally to protect your lips against further damage and to add some moisture, here's my simple lip balm recipe.

Ingredients: Soya Wax, Cocoa Powder, Vitamin E tablet, Coconut Oil and a small container.

Place the soya wax into a microwave dish and heat it up to 65c. Pour into a small container and add cocoa powder and the contents of a Vitamin E tablet to ensure that the lips stay nourished. If you want your lip balm to add colour to your lips, once the soya wax is melted, cut up part of an older lipstick and mix together. The lipstick will melt into the soya wax and create a colourful lip balm you can use all day long.

Will you be trying any of these recipes?

UK Winter Staycations

Misty skies, crisp auburn leaves, the sound of a flickering flame on a wood fire, mulled cider in hand - there's nothing I love more than the beginning of autumn.  The autumn weather makes me think of romantic novels, everyone snuggling together to keep warm around fireplace, kisses in the rain and walking through woodland as the first leaves begin to drop. When the weather gets colder, there's a lot of people that like to abandon ship and take the next flight out of the country, but not me. I love a winter stay-cation in the UK. Pretty castles, old fashioned pubs and acres of wonderful countryside to photograph as the season changes, that is my type of retreat. Over the last week I have scoured the internet and searched far and wide to bring you a few UK hidden gems that will make you not want to head for the nearest plane, but book a train and explore what our beautiful country has to offer this time of year.

Vintage Lovers

If you have a penchant for fifties style dresses and a love for corduroy and flares then Brighton and Hove may whet your vintage shopping appetite. The image above is just one of the many vintage stores Brighton and Hove have to offer. There's Hope & Harlequin on Sydney Street whose vintage finds have graced the likes of Downtown Abbey,  the Snoopers Attic at Kensington Gardens - a must go-to for any thrifty shoppers who don't mind sifting through bric-a-brac to find that coveted item, The Lavender Room which is one of the UK's most successful lifestyle boutiques and Flock, a new vintage store opening in November that promises to bring together the stylish and bohemian offerings of a handful of local labels.

The Romantics

If you prefer to head somewhere where you can switch off your phone and hide away for a few days just you and your partner, the Hidden Lodge in the gorgeous Devonshire country may be more suited to you. The Hidden Loge is a beautiful converted barn hidden away amongst the undulating hills and bubbling streams of Yealm Valley. The property boasts thick stone walls, wooden beams, under-floor heating, a wood burning stove to cuddle up next to, a glass staircase and a loft style bedroom with meadow views.

Foodie breaks

If your idea of a perfect break revolves around sampling the local culinary treats, then the Edinburgh Food Safari at the exquisite Nira Caledonia hotel is not to be missed. Foodie lovers can experience a culinary adventure with Nira Caledonia as they launch their new 'Edinburgh Food Safari' this month. This tantalising taster of local specialities will lead explorers on a gastronomic quest, exploring the vibrant Scottish Capital allowing them to immerse themselves in the city's culture and authenticity. During the safari, explorers will be introduced to six of Edinburgh's local flavour haunts, serving the best in Scottish cuisine.

Luxury

Finally if you prefer a city break to capital, but you are looking somewhere different that has an historical background and serves exceptional food, check out The Ampersand Hotel in South Kensington. The Ampersand Hotel is a new London experience with individually styled brooms, balconied suites, splashes of contemporary art and a ground floor patisserie serving artisanal coffee and Champagne. Located in the original 19th century vault below the luxurious decor of the hotel, Apero offers a taste of the Mediterranean with a tempting menu of sharing plates of cocktails. The hotel is one of London's original Victorian boutique hotels, having originally opened in 1888.

What would be your perfect winter stay-cation?

Autumn Fitness - The Countdown to Christmas

I'm sorry to startle you all, but did you know it is only 11 weeks until Christmas? I cannot believe how fast time has flown. It feels like two minutes since I made my New Year Resolutions (only one of which I have managed to stick to) and in a few weeks time I'll be making a brand new set. I don't have a clue where 2015 has gone, but I do know I only have a short time to get LBD ready for party season. Here's how I intend on getting fit for Christmas.

Walking

Walking has always been one of my favourite things to do, but now I have a car I've become rather lazy. Instead of walking to the shops, I usually drive and the only walking exercise I get is too and from the train station at work. My plan is walk at least half an hour a day and go for long strolls with my husband on a weekend. Both of us love driving up to the countryside and we haven't done it in awhile. I'm lucky to live near many beautiful reservoirs and lakes.

Swimming

Swimming is one of my favourite exercises and the one I do the most regularly. I've always been a good swimmer and can easily swim a mile (64 lengths) in less than an hour when I'm not feeling too lazy. My aim is to swim three times a week and do at least 30 lengths each time. I love going just before bed so I can come back home and fall to sleep easily.

Pole Fitness

If you have read my blog for awhile, you will know that I love pole fitness and I even have a pole in my spare room. Unfortunately I had to give this up early this year due to ill health and the pole at my house has barely been touched. Over the next few weeks I'm determined to start dancing at least once a week at home to ease my way back into dancing and hopefully by the new year I will be able to start lessons again.

If you're looking for more exercise tips check out this guide* to staying active whatever the weather, there's lots of wonderful tips and advice to give you winter fitness motivation.

Are you planning on getting fit this autumn?
