Summertime Maxi Dress

Maxi dresses and I never seem to get along. They are always far too long for my tiny 5ft 2 body or make me look wide at the hips, it's almost impossible to find the correct fit. I gave up all hope on ever finding a maxi dress until last year I stumbled across one I loved from Next. The maxi was from their petite section and fitted me like a dream. My body looked all in proportion and for once I felt glamorous. Until a few weeks ago, I only had one maxi dress in my wardrobe that I truly loved and wore all summer. Then I came across this beautiful lace dress from Darccy (link*) and decided to take a gamble and see if it would suit me.

According to the Darccy website:" Darccy welcomes you to the wonderful world of unique vintage inspired clothing, accessorises, handbags and shoes. Where fresh floral patterns and flirty designs flourish and fun frocks and fabulously flattering lace dresses spring into style." As you may know from previous posts, I absolutely adore vintage styles. In fact I'm having a 1950s inspired wedding in just under 7 weeks time. My passion for vintage inspired clothing derived from hours of listening to 50s/60s music with my parents as a young girl and raiding through my grandmas clothing and jewellery boxes. As I grew older, I started to enjoy researching the 'golden decades' and looking for style inspiration. My favourite films are also 'All Across the Universe' and 'Pleasantville' - two films you must watch if you haven't seen them before.

When I ordered this Darccy dress, I was anxious about the sizing and wondered whether yet again my small height would hinder my dream summer style. Luckily the dress fits perfectly and looks even better than I imagined. I love the lace detailing along the bust and the vertical stripes on the skirt which make my legs look longer. The vintage collar is a beautiful touch and finishes off this dress perfectly. If I had one niggle, it would be that it is slightly too big due to the dress being elasticated and it makes me look a little bit wide on the hips again due to the amount of fabric. However, the beauty of this dress draws the attention away from my little concern and over all, it is a winning summer style piece.

Have you shopped at Darccy before?

  2. Love it! I'm 5ft5 and I find maxi dresses are usually too long for me, so frustrating.
