Bank Holiday Beauty Saviours

The weather this bank holiday might be looking dull, but there's no reason to dampen down your style. I love dressing up on a bank holiday, enjoying cocktails with my friends and generally making the most of the long weekend. This bank holiday will be tremendously important as it's the last holiday I will be having for awhile because on Tuesday I will be entering full employment. I am a mixture of anxious, yet insanely excited - all of which I have been reassured are natural feelings upon entering your first full time job. My daily makeup routine is due a massive overhaul, not just for the bank holiday season, but for work too. I have decided I need to be more experimental and accentuate what I believe to not too bad natural looking features.

One of my new favourite eye products is by RMK Kaleidoscope eye palette (link*) in shades pink and yellow. The palette looks like a piece of art - two beautiful woven colours which can be separated or combined to make the perfect spring time bright eye look. As a girly girl at heart, I love the pink eye shadow and I love the fact that it is bright, but not too overpowering. It is elegant enough to wear all day and bright enough to stand out on an evening.

My favourite hair product at the moment has to be the Redken Iron Shape 11 (link*). Before receiving this delightful little bottle of heat defence spray, I had never tried Redken products. This little pink bottle has made me want to discover more of their collection. Before using this heat defence spray, my hair used to suffer from a lot of frizz and never went as sleek as I desired. The Redken Iron Shape has transformed my hair in many ways - making it feel vibrant, healthier and sleeker and at £11 for the bottle, you cannot go wrong.

I love eyeliner, to the point I wear winged eyeliner nearly everyday. Finding the perfect eyeliner can often be a struggle and during the last year there has two been two brands I have really trusted - the Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner and Collection 2000s 24 hour pen eyeliner. I find the Daniel Sandler waterproof eyeliner a delight to work with as it has a highly intense colour and it is soft enough to blend.Although the Daniel Sandler eyeliner does not work that well for winged 50s style eyeliner which is my go-to eye makeup routine, it works insanely well for those who are looking for a smokey eye effect and with it being waterproof, it is likely to withstand the bank holiday rain.

Finally, with all this dull weather we are currently experiencing most of us are in need of a quick pick-me-up for our skin. Scott Barnes' body bling (link*) is a tinted shimmering moisturising body lotion that gives you a glow-on-the-go and instantly adds a touch of colour to skin with minimal effort. I love how the product glistens in the sun and warms my skin tone easily when I need it the most. Even better, it only costs £7.50 - it's a fabulous buy for under £10.

Makeup Haul

Welcome to my new blog layout, I hope you like it!

The weather outside is dull, cold and somewhat resembling Narnia. The golf course near me has a soft sheen of snow that has finally been trampled on by little children and my road is like an assault course putting me to the test as I trek to Uni. My clothing of choice has been thick jumpers, a scarf stolen from my mother and thick walking boots, subsequently following my 'slobby' sense of clothing has been a natural makeup free face. Going through the effort of applying makeup when embarking on such long, hazardous snow journeys has not been worth it. By the time I've got to the university doors, I've had bright red cheeks from the cold air and my hair has been sticking out at strange angles due to the climate. When I finally reached my town centre earlier today, I felt the urge to reward myself by purchasing some makeup and here's what I bought today. Be aware, there's many unflattering photographs of me wearing no makeup at all...

MUA Pro Base Palette - £2.50

I'm useless when it comes to applying primers and potions before foundation, I'm usually in such a hurry that some basic skin care steps can often be missed. This leads to my foundation looking rather drab at times and  although it has amazing coverage, it doesn't stand out as much as I'd like. I've heard a lot of positive reviews in regards to the new MUA Pro-Base palette so I thought for £2.50 it would be worth picking it up. The trio set includes: two concealers and a highlighter. The product helps set your makeup, hide the blemishes and define your facial contours. I went for the porcelain palette due to having really fair skin and I found that the concealer covered rather well.

Here's a picture of me with my foundation applied. As you can see, my cheeks are looking rosy due to the highlighter and although I have slight darkening under my eyes it isn't so bad compared to the previous image.

B Groomed Eyebrow Kit (£2.50)  and B Longer Eye Mascara (£7.99)
B cosmetics is a new range for Superdrug with fantastic introductory offers. The packaging looks really sleek and elegant and there's so many products to choose from. Having long for a new eyebrow pencil, but not being able to currently afford my beloved MAC, I decided to choose from this new range. The eyebrow pencil comes complete with a mini brush to tidy all your stray hairs, a brown pencil and a wax counterpart. The product is simple to use and blends really well. I'm really impressed with this product as it matches the exact colour of my hair and makes my eyebrows really stand out. The mascara is equally as fabulous. It has been a long time since I've found a mascara that gives me dramatically long eyelashes. I've always suffered from short embarrassing eyelashes, especially when you compare them to my fiances. The B longer eye mascara made my eyelashes look so dramatic and literally eye popping. I will have to give it a few weeks to see if the novelty wears off, but it's definitely in line for being my holy grail of eye mascaras.

Miners Colour Kohl Eyeliners £1.99 each

I love eyeliners, but I'm boring and always stick to black. I was sent these little beauties in the post to review and they arrived today. Miners cosmetics are the official makeup brand for Dancing on Ice, therefore you can expect their products to be bold, daring and very colourful.   The eyeliners come in four different shades for you to choose and cost only £1.99 each. The colours available are: Brown, Black, Blue and Gold. For this little review I decided to shade in my eyelid using the gold pencil,  draw a cat flick eye pattern with the black eyeliner and finally finish off using the gold eyeliner again for my under eye.

And here's the finished result:

My new makeup is really affordable and easy to use, I don't regret any of the purchases so far. Hopefully buying this new makeup will get me out of my lazy habit of going makeup free during the winter weather and challenge me to create additional makeup looks.

RVB Eyeliner

It's snowed heavily here today in Huddersfield and I've spent the majority of the day snuggled up in bed with my onesie. My tonsillitis is beginning to ease off, but head has been pounding and I'm coughing every second minute of the day. Don't we all love winter bugs? I'm hoping all the cold weather doesn't make everything worse right now, I doubt i'd be able to handle it. So back to my normal, boring day. I was sitting in bed with my onesie and I received a knock at the door.  I ran downstairs and I was delivered a cute little parcel. Nothing makes your day better than receiving a handful post, unless of course it's bills, everyone hates bills.  The parcel contained this cute little eyeliner set that I had been sent to review. Eyeliner is something I wear almost everyday and even if I wear nothing else, I always try to put a little bit of eyeliner on. Even in bed this morning, I thought I'd look a little more glamorous with cat-flick eyes, only to have fallen asleep and woken up with them all smudged. We're so used to seeing celebrities in photographs posing in bed with a full face of makeup, but we all know as soon as they shut their eyelids there will be lipstick on the sheets, foundation on the pillows and then you wake up like you've had a drunken night out. Always the case.

RVB cosmetics is an Italian based skin care brand that stand by using chemical free, natural products.

This wonderful compact eyeliner set comes with a powder pot, small applicator and a little mirror. It's the perfect size to carry around in your handbag and the pigments are tightly compacted so it wont spill all over your makeup bag. The description of the product says:

" Perfect as a modular eyeliner allowing application of outlines from the thinnest to the most intense. Moisten the applicator brush with water, form a "cream" with the compact powder of the product then apply. As an eye shadow  it can be used completely dry for a deep yet transparent black, or moistened for a more intense black or impeccable hold" - RVB Team.

The picture above illustrates how natural the eyeliner looks. I'm wearing no other makeup apart from this and yet it doesn't look out of place at all.
I haven't yet tried it as an eye shadow, but as an eyeliner I'm pretty impressed. I liked how easy it was to switch between bigger or small strokes with the eyeliner brush and I found that the product applied rather easily. I've always been a fan of the 'felt tip' type eyeliners so this was a little different for me. The product has stayed on a few hours already and I'm looking forward to experimenting more with this set.

Would you try this eyeliner?

Front Cover: True Colours

When I walk into my local Boots, I always see a selection of Front Cover makeup palettes and think to myself 'maybe I should buy one of those sometime'. For the last few months, I seem to have forgotten all about it, until I made contact with a lovely woman that offered to give me the 'True Colours' set to review. Obviously, having longed for a palette in the past, I couldn't turn the offer down and I'm so glad I have been able to trial the products.

For those who are not acquainted with Front Cover cosmetics, the brand is based in the UK and offers a vast selection of catwalk trending makeup in stylish photographic boxes. The packaging resembles a magazine and when you open the cover, you are greeted with an array of pigmented colours to play around with and a style guide to help you achieve those perfect party looks. I definitely give top marks for the packaging as you could get a whole selection of boxes and they would look so pretty on a shelf next to each other.

The True Colours set includes: Six Baked Power Eyeshadows, Five Satin Pressed Powder Eyeshadows, Five lip glosses  Two nail polish glazes, a double ended mascara, retractable lip brush, eye mini blender brush, eye shadow brush and creamy metallic eye pencil. All this for a bargain price of £25. The set also includes a booklet of makeup tutorials in several different languages, making these products versatile and friendly across all continents.  My favourite colours in the kit has to be the Parma Grey and Sterling, which combined give an amazing smokey eye effect. Another product that really grabbed my attention was the mascara. Admittedly, I didn't really expect much from a mascara included in a kit. I always use higher end products, but this worked better than one of my Chanel eye mascaras.

At first I had lower expectations for these products, but after wearing them for the last few days, this is fast becoming one of my favourite everyday makeup palettes. The True Colours set literally has everything you need to make your face winter fresh and natural looking this Christmas. I don't want to be the next Barbie and I definitely don't long to look plastic. All I want for Christmas is natural beauty and this set is everything I look for when choosing my cosmetics.

Lush Emotional Brilliance

Lush have recently brought out their new Emotional Brilliance range and after being a fan of their soaps and bath bombs for quite awhile, I couldn't wait to try their cosmetics. The range includes liquid lipsticks, eyeliners and eyeshadows and is fast becoming a big hit amongst bloggers. The products I was sent to trial have given me mixed opinions - I'm in love with the lipsticks, but really can't stand the liquid eyeliner. As I always stress, you really have to try these products for yourself before taking my word for it, but hopefully this review will shed some light on the products.

Glamorous and Confident are two of Lush's new lipsticks and I rather like them.  Glamorous is my favourite colour as I have an obsession with pink and it reminds me of barbie, but confident is a shade I wouldn't usually pick and I seem to have grown fond of it.  The products are £14.50, which I think is a little steep, but I do think they have a great quality to them.

Here's a picture of the 'Glamorous Liquid Lipstick'. I like how effortlessly the product glides on and how the little brush easily givens your lips the definition needed. The colour is highly pigmented, which is great for those feeling adventurous and wanting to step out of their natural shade comfort zone. The lipsticks can also be used as liquid blushers and other makeup, making this incredibly versatile and value for money.

And here's the 'Confident Lipstick'....

I think unfortunately it's a little too dark for my complex, but I love the gothic look - which will be great over the winter.

And finally, this is the eyeliner in the shade of 'Dynamic'. Although the colour may suit other people, it didn't really suit me and I'm not too fond of the brush. It feels like too flimsy and I'm struggling to get an even line. I'm definitely going to try this again to see if I could get used to playing around with it, but so far,  unfortunately it's not for me.
