The Importance of 'Me Time'

Gordon Castle Candle *  Mindfulness Book
Having time to ourselves is something that is often hard to come by when you lead such a busy life. Everything can get in the way from work to being invited out last minute with friends and it often puts a strain on our bodies and make us highly stressed. Stress is something that most adults encounter at some point in their lives and for some people, it can drive them to despair. Some people don't like talking about their stress levels and others are open, but leaving stress undealt with can be a major problem. Most of us will have had a moment in our lives where we have reached boiling point and combust in the most awkward of places. I know I have. From crying in the middle of the streets to suddenly screaming for no apparent reason. All of which happened because I allowed myself to get overly stressed and didn't give myself time to relax. Giving yourself 10 minutes a day to detox the mind and forget about your troubles is all that is sometimes needed to make you feel like a new person and having some alone time is a great way to plan out your next steps and have a clear mind on the situation.

When I read about the new craze of adult colouring books I was glad to feel I was not alone in wanting a colouring book at the age of 24. I remember colouring all the time as a child and being rather content. Whenever I was being naughty or throwing a little hissy fit, my parents would sit me down in the corner of the room and make me colour. Even at a young age colouring felt therapeutic to me and instantly gave me the relaxation I needed.

The Mindfulness Colouring Book by Emma Farrarons is described as 'anti-stress art therapy for busy people'. People who purchase this book are asked to dedicate a few minutes of their day to colouring in this book to see if it makes a difference. I bought this from Waterstones a few weeks ago as I thought this would be the perfect way to de-stress after a long day at work and so far I've been feeling like a child again, happy filling in all the bank pages with an abundance of colour. I love the feeling of being creative and free to unleash my colourful thoughts on the page and with my favourite new candle the relaxing scent of my Scottish Gordon's Castle Rosemary and Thyme I have been able to soothe my mind and find some inner peace - for at least 10 minutes a day. I've never been artistic and apart from my writing and I'm not really that creative, but I find Emma's book a delight to use and somewhat inspiring. With the candle lit next to the fireplace and some peaceful music in the background, I've able to colour my stress away. Buying a colouring book when you're getting older might feel like a strange thing to do, but I would definitely recommend trying it.

Have you been tempted to buy an adult colouring book?

  3. I have heard about this! I actually think it is kind of genius. Sometimes, focusing on something else is all you need to relax.

  4. I am definitely going to get one. I have the exact same moments where I find myself screaming, shouting, throwing a wobbly just because. I guess it's our bodies way of exerting the anger and stress. I really want one, because I find myself in these situations a little more than I'd like to!

  5. I started watercolours a while back as it's great to lose myself. I actually printed off free colouring designs yesterday to see if I'd do them.
