Take Me Back to The 50's

For as long as I can remember, I have always loved vintage inspired clothing, especially if it is to do with the 1950s. I love the classic feminine look of 50s style fashion - the clothes all gave the most wonderful hourglass silhouette and flattered every figure. It was a time when women looked elegant and girly.

Recently I was asked to participate in  a challenge by Tesco called 'How You're Wearing It' and I was asked to pick and style an item of clothing from the F&F website. Recently I blogged about how supermarkets are upping their game in the fashion department and yet again, this dress is an example of how chic supermarket clothing are becoming. For the challenge I picked this wonderful F&F Limited Edition Off the Shoulder Skater Dress to review and styled it to replicate a 1950s look. To accessorise this outfit, I teamed the dress with my grandmas vintage pearl necklace - which was given to her by my granddad in the late 1940s and I wore by Chandelier earrings from Lipsy that I bought last year. This dress is very comfortable to wear and easy to dress up or down. I have been wearing it quite a lot recently now the weather is a lot warmer and I can easily see myself wearing it all through summer.

This dress makes me want to watch Dreamboats and Petticoats the musical all over again and dance the whole night through to my favourite 50s songs. Even better, it is a reminder that just over 6 months from now, I will be having my own 50s style wedding - excited is an understatement.

Lady in Red:Fashion Union

The closer to Christmas it is, the more inclined I am to wearing the colour red. I always see the colour as really powerful and empowering to women. As much as it's my favourite colour, my wardrobe doesn't have that many red items and I never seem to be able to find the perfect red dress. I was recently accepted on the Fashion Union blogger list on Etail PR and I was offered the opportunity to review one of their items. Having browsed through the list I picked out this little red number, in hope that this would be the perfect new addition to my wardrobe.

When the dress arrived I had very mixed opinions. It looks beautiful, feels effortless to wear, but as much as I wanted it to, it just doesn't do anything for my figure. This is no fault of Fashion Union, it's just I personally think this dress is meant for women that have less curves so it can add definition to their body. On my curvier size 8 figure, the dress grabs to my insecurities and makes me look a bit frumpy. The issue I had with this dress is the fact that it is incredibly low cut. I couldn't wear the dress without it bending over and exposing my dignity to everyone in sight. The way I got around this issue was by putting a stitch into the top. I did it quite loosely so that I can unpick it in the future, but for now it kept everything concealed. Another word of warning from this dress is the fact that it comes in pretty big sizes. I'm usually between a 6 to 10 on the high street and I ordered an extra small from Fashion Union. This dress felt incredibly big on me and I think that's another reason it didn't look too flattering on my body shape.I turned to my fiance for advice and although he is usually quite polite about what I wear, even he agreed that it made me look bigger than I actually am, however he's as disappointed as me because we both absolutely adore the colour of this dress.

If I had a different body shape, this dress would have 'me' written all over it. It's striking, bold and such a beautiful dress to wear. Would I shop at Fashion Union again? Of course I would. Fashion Union have some lovely dresses in, especially the glittery ones for Christmas. However, like with all clothes shopping every now and then you buy something that isn't necessarily for you.

The 'Red Wrap Over Chiffon Dress' can be bought for £19.00 from the Fashion Union Website.

Valentines Day Glamour

A lot of my friends seem to ask me: "What is all the fuss about valentines day?" Most of them don't see them don't see the point in it or use the same excuse: "Why use one day of the year to show someone you love them? It should be all year round." My answer is simple - I find Valentines day fun, exciting and really, a chance to dress up...and I'm not speaking kinky. I'm an old school romantic. I believe in sending love letters regularly, saying I love you before hanging up the phone, kissing in the streets and doing all the things that most people seem to moan about. Valentines day isn't an excuse to say I love you, we say that enough already, but it's an excuse to pretend you have only just started dating and you have the puppy love feeling all over again. If you could go back to your first date, would you change the outfit you was wearing? Have a different hair colour?  In the image above, I have compiled my perfect Valentines outfit. Due to a spending ban, unfortunately I wont be buying anything, but a girl can definitely dream.

1: The Dress

Figure enhancing, cleavage exposing and pin up girl-esque, this dress is simply to die for. I love the way the dress pattern focuses on the slimmest part of your stomach, whilst the horizontal lines emphasize those curves.

2: Kandee Shoes

These red and gold Cherry lace Kandees will add an elegant touch to the outfit and a small bit of sparkle. You can't go wrong with a pair of trust Kandees - from my own personal experience, they are comfortable, reliable and make your legs look fierce. I've been longing for those shoes for so long, if only the shoe fairies would come visit me sometime soon.

3: The Necklace

The dress and shoes have such a vintage feel, so it would only be right to team the outfit up with a wonderful vintage style necklace. This Zara Taylor design is classic, sophisticated and would go with any outfit. Added to this dress, it would evoke a sense of  old Hollywood glamour and I'm sure Liz Taylor herself would have been happy to wear such an elegant neck chain. The best thing about this item is the fabulously low price of £20.

4: The Clutch

At £35 this Aldo Gooder Jewelled Box Clutch bag is the perfect finishing touch to the outfit. The gold embellishments tie in nicely with the gold on the shoes, the necklace and goes fabulously with the red dress. The cream colour is subtle and does not overpower the outfit. I think the clutch is very charming, feminine and something that I would love to own. The nude colour would go with so many different outfits for many different occasions.

Available from: ASOS.com  £35

I'm seriously in love with this outfit. Red and gold really evoke a sense of love and lust, making this outfit a perfect choice for Valentines day.

If you love the dress as much as I do and have the budget to spare, Needthatstyle.com has kindly teamed up with Forevermissvanity to give all my readers a very generous 10% discount on the dress! Christmas Frocks

Last night I went out for a meal with my fiance and his family and I had many compliments on my little gold dress. To be fair, it has laid at the bottom of my wardrobe since last Christmas and I was unsure whether to wear it. The dress was bought from Jones&Jones and has the most incredible petticoat, however I only like wearing it for special occasions as I sometimes feel ever so slightly over exposed due to the dress being backless.

This is definitely one of my favourite festive dresses as it evokes the sense of glamour and looks rather angelic. The gold lace gives a sexy, yet feminine appeal and the petticoat adds volume to the hips, making your waist look tiny. This is perfect whilst indulging over the Christmas period.

All this talk of Christmas dresses made me want to do some online research and here's my favourite dresses currently on the market:

  • Jones&Jones Audrey Poppy Dress - £60
I love the festive red colour and big petticoat that most Jones&Jones dresses come with. It's a perfect dress for being twirled around the dance floor and having fun with your family.
  • Topshop Sequinned Maxi Dress - £85
When visiting Liverpool Fashion Week a few months ago, I saw a wonderful young woman in a floor length sequinned maxi dress. Her hair was neatly tied into a bun and her makeup was flawless. She looked like she walked straight from the red carpet and I feel like this dress really encapsulates the feeling of glamour and old Hollywood.
  • River Island Sequinned Prom Dress - On sale at £40
Clinched in at the waist with an elegant little bow, this little black dress will make you look like the perfect little Christmas present when you're wanting to impress someone. It's a very flirtatious dress with a rock'n'roll swing feel and this would be great for any Christmas parties.
  • Lipsy V.I.P Sequinned Bust Dress - £110
I wore this dress to the Reveal magazine photo shoot last year. The dress is very comfortable, flattering for any figure and adds a slight sparkle for those who normally shy away from glitter.

What is your favourite Christmas dress?
