Why it's important to unleash your inner Girl Boss

I have always been someone who has dipped in and out of different jobs and various types of money making hobbies. When I left school I had no idea what I wanted to do in life and I ended up studying several different courses before I embarked on my career of choice. I have no regrets though, these courses that I have studied are all part of my 'back up plan', if things go wrong I know that I'm qualified in many different skillsets and I know that if I needed to, I can pick back up on my training. With today's job market being so saturated, pressure for millennials to start saving despite having very little flexible income, it's more important than ever to become your own 'Girl Boss' consider taking on multiple revenue streams.

Saving for a house recently has taught me the value of having multiple jobs. Besides my nine to five everyday job, over the last six months I have been a mystery shopper, transcriber, user tester  I have undertaken university studies, taken part in market research, began the process of setting up eBay and Etsy stores and of course, carried on with my little blog.  Taking on these additional tasks has made me not have to worry about money as much as I know that I'm always having money coming in throughout the month. Although it has been difficult keeping up with all the work and i've had to sacrifice a few hours over the weekends, it has been fun being my own 'Girl Boss' and here's just a few reasons why I think you should consider doing the same.

It is great for your CV

The best thing about taking on multiple income streams is that you're always learning new skills that are great for your CV or even your portfolio for your dream career. Whether you're looking to freelance in a job that you are trained to do, or just look to make extra money online, there's so many transferable skills to be learnt. For example, blog writing shows that you can be a great communicator and great at grammar and punctuation, whereas mystery shopping highlights that you have an eye for detail when it comes to writing reports.

Networking

One of the things I love about taking on any additional work is networking with like minded individuals and being able to quiz them about tricks of the trade. Many of the best job opportunities out there tend to come from the people you know, so it's always a good idea to network and have more people in your professional circle.

A chance to trial different careers

Having multiple revenue streams is great if you're a person who spends a lot of time job hopping or dreaming about careers that could have been. Having the extra income enables you to trial different careers, while having the security of one main job. You can always look into taking weekend or evening courses to enhance your skills.

A back up plan

None of us like to think about the possibility of losing our jobs or having our hours reduced, but anything can happen and it is always important to be prepared. Two years ago my health took a really big blow and it left me doubting whether I would be able to have a normal career like a lot of my friends, but over the last year I have managed to get my health back on track and so far things are looking really positive, but I do have plenty of money making backup plans if things did take a nosedive again.

Extra money for the things you love

Although it is difficult taking on the extra workload, it all feels worth it when you are able to make a little bit of extra money for the things you genuinely love doing, whether it is travelling more or saving up money for something big like a wedding or a house.

If you do consider taking on any additional work it is important to remember to register to pay tax, but the benefits outweigh the negatives and if you are looking to inject some much needed cash into your life or simply want to try something new, why not? Life is too short to not do the things that you enjoy.

  1. Human beings have infinite needs and in that case doing multiple jobs helps you generate more money to get some luxuries that can not be afforded with a single job. It gives you exposure to of new things and enhances your social circle as well. Secondary or Tertiary jobs also add much to your resume and can be helpful for your future goals.
