Zara Autumn Wish list

"Buy me Gucci, buy me Prada, buy me Louis, buy me Zara"
 Wide boys, Shoppaholic.

Zara is usually a hit or miss store with me. One day I'll be splashing the cash, grabbing nearly every item in store and the next I'll go in and see nothing I really fancy. Zara's clothing is more for the edgy, urban woman so sometimes they're outfits are a little bit too flamboyant for more liking, however this season has really grabbed my attention and got my mind thinking about nothing, but Zara clothing.

If I had enough money right now i'd be coming out of Zara with more bags than my arms can hold, but being a student it's impossible to make my dreams a reality. Therefore, I've compiled a little list of items I may be able to afford in the future. Unfortunately I will probably only be able to pick one or two when I next get paid, but some Zara in my wardrobe is better than no Zara.

My wish list is composed of six items that I think will make the perfect Zara capsule wardrobe for the autumn and items that will go hand in hand with each other. The first item on the list is the beautiful leather shopper. Priced at £89.99 it's a little bit on the expensive side, but Zara bags generally make great investment pieces. I'm torn between this bag and the other that I have mentioned in my collage, the leather bag with metal tab. This bag is even more expensive, but has such a classic, long lasting design. It evokes a sense of rock'n'roll and if there's anything type of music that I love, i'm a die hard heavy metal fan.

The third picture in the collage is the Zara coat I've been lusting after since Sunday. This coat has remained in my mind ever since I left Chester and I'm dying to try it on again. The coat fits like a glove, it's really slimline and looks like it would be great for every season. I don't think anyone could go wrong with a classic red coat. Teamed up with the leather motorbike leggings and those red asymmetric kitten heels, I think it would be the perfect outfit to get me through the autumn weather.

Have you shopped at Zara lately?

Geek Chic:Firmoo Glasses

I've been wearing glasses since primary school after the school nurse rang my mother and said: "this girl is going to be as blind as a bat if you don't take her to the opticians." I remember sulking for ages before I was literally dragged straight into my local opticians for the appointment. My local opticians then looked really dated and somewhere that only grandparents should really shop. As a kid, I was still very style conscious and whilst my friends were getting trendy children's glasses, my mum would pick pairs out that would make me look like an eye sore. My past experiences with purchasing glasses have changed quite a lot since I was young. I now favour designer the majority of the time and if they evoke 'grandma chic' the opticians are definitely not getting my cash.

With internet shopping in bloom and many stores making wearing glasses a style statement, finding a pair that suits you and makes your life more exciting is easier than ever. Lately there has been a rise in online companies competing against major retailers, offering affordable trendy glasses for a low starting price. Any glasses wearer will know that buying your spectacles can often be a pricey affair, but brands like Firmoo are making sure we save our pennies for what really counts - a brand new wardrobe to accessorise your new look.

Firmoo are an online glasses retailer originally from the USA, but now are a leading global brand. With their competitive pricing and trendy styles the company have won  the prestigious title of 'the world's most popular online glasses retailer' and are now taking the world by storm. The Firmoo store sells a variety of prescription glasses for people looking for a cheaper alternative to high street opticians and if you don't wear glasses, but have always wanted to jump on the trend, you can purchase any of their styles simply for fashion purposes.

To help you choose your style, Firmoo have a 'trying on' element of their blog, where you can simply upload a picture of yourself and try on lots of frames.

If this doesn't whet your appetite for new glasses, Firmoo also offers a generous deal where you can get your first pair of glasses completely free. Their first free glasses scheme enables you to try out of the brand for only the postage price. The offers are first come, first serve so act quick to get your fashion steal. If you're also feeling lucky, you can always try the Firmoo lucky draw that allows one person each day to win a pair of glasses and free shipping.

When Firmoo approached me about doing a blog review, I was pretty excited. I usually spent around £100 on a pair of glasses and when my prescription needs altering at an inconvenient time, it can leave me rather broke. This happened only a few weeks ago when I started struggling to read driving number plates and needed a quick pair of glasses for my driving lessons. I forked out a ridiculous amount of money and felt pretty miserable afterwards. I admit I'm one of these girls that wears my glasses for 24 hours thinking I look amazing and then they spend the next couple of months residing in a forgotten draw. I'm useless.

These glasses I have been sent are the SD2299 frames. When I purchase glasses, I like to go for the geekier the better. I like to imply that I'm only wearing glasses for a fashion statement and I want something that really stands out. These glasses definitely stand out with their very wide frames and bold design. I love how retro they look and the fact that they surprisingly suit me. The glasses are currently on sale for $26, which is approximately £15 in the UK. That's a massive saving compared to my usual purchases. The quality of the glasses are probably not as fabulous as my expensive designer pair, but they do the job and look great. For someone who is like me who is only a part-time glasses wearer, they're fantastic.

Weekend in Chester

Sometimes it feels like you spend hours waiting for that weekend away you've booked four months in advance and then it suddenly its comes and it's over within a blink of an eye. This weekend we booked an overnight stay in the city of Chester for my fiances birthday. Unleashing his inner child, James asked me to take him to the zoo and I kindly obliged. I'm a lover of small, cute animals and couldn't think of a better way to spend my weekend. We arrived at Chester on Saturday morning, went straight to the zoo and then stayed in the Queens Hotel across from the train station. I admit I can be a little bit of a hotel snob and the room wasn't really my cup of tea, but it was a comfortable and pleasant night stay. On the evening we headed into town for a few sneaky drinks, only to find ourselves in the middle of a re-launch party at Chester's Revolution. All evening we were treated to free canapés and lots of cocktails and shots, a perfect way to spend James' birthday. On the Sunday, we did what I do best and went shopping. I picked up lots of treats which I'm sure i'll be blogging about soon. Tip - Primark has definitely picked up lately and has lots of surprisingly nice, bang on trend items.

Here's some of this weekends pictures.

Nude Beauty Favourites

Although I spend a lot of time playing with hair extensions and vibrant coloured lipsticks, natural beauty is something that remains important to me. I believe that having a selection of nude makeup on hand is always important for those days when you want to embrace the natural you. During summer, I'm always wearing natural looking makeup as I think it compliments my tan more and usually requires minimal effort. There's nothing prettier than a girl during summer looking makeup free with tousled hair and beautiful floral dress - this is totally the 'inner hippie' of me coming out in this post.

Today I thought I'd show you a few of my current makeup favourites that I can't stop wearing. These are the new Beauty UK Masquerade posh palette* and the Atelier Paris new lip range.

The new Masquerade palette by Beauty UK is the perfect selection of everyday eyeshadow, in very earthy yet glamorous colours. Each eyeshadow is highly pigmented and works well without a primer. If there's any complaints it would be that they are a little bit too powdery and you need to make sure you shake off the excess, but this is a very minor complaint. I've found the eyeshadows delightful and the touch of sparkle embodied in the palette makes your eyes look beautiful and shimmering. Another aspect I love about this palette is the fact that the colours are very versatile and can be worn all the year long throughout the varying seasons. The lighter colours are great to last you until the end of summer and the darker colours will give you a head start to your autumn makeup collection.

My new lipsticks I cannot stop wearing were kindly sent to me by Atelier Paris* and they're part of the Atelier Paris Waterproof lipstick range that contains 2% jojoba oil to keep your lips moisturised. The two colours in the image are both are the 'Sandy Pink' on the left and 'Gypsy' on the right. The lipgloss in the centre is the 'Beige Dore'.

When I first tried this lipsticks, I was blown away with scent and taste. It feels like something j really fruity and sweet has touched your lips and your mouth starts to water. I love fruity inspired lip glosses and lipsticks so this was an added bonus that I didn't expect from the lipsticks. The actual quality of the lipsticks are better than I expected. I didn't know much about the brand and for £14, it's very similar to the price of MAC. Whilst on my work experience, I wore this lipsticks back to back all week and after trailing the products I realised that they stayed on all day, was unaffected by what I ate and the scent I loved was still with me by the end of the day. This makes these lipsticks definitely worth the £14 price tag. In fact, I've worn higher end lipsticks that have rubbed off easier than these.

What are your nude beauty favourites?

Strike a Pose!

A couple of months ago I was trawling through Facebook during one of my nightly 'catch up' sessions and I saw a competition to win a deluxe modelling photo-shoot from the awarding winning Dave Spinx photography near Leeds. I thought I'd enter, because I wanted a few promotional shots for my blog and really wanted to see if I possessed the skills to be a model. I've admitted several times before that I have quite a lot of anxiety surrounding my body image and lately I've been trying to do the best to increase my confidence. Pole dancing lessons have been a fabulous start to my body confidence challenge, but I knew being in front of the camera and having the lights shining on me would be the ultimate test.

When I arrived at the studio I was a really shy, but a few shots in I began laughing and really enjoying myself. I learnt that photo shoots can be harder work than they originally look and you feel like you've had a gymnastic workout with some of the poses they get you doing. Despite all this, I had a fabulous time and i'm really impressed with the photos. Sometime soon I'm going to be investing in a brand new blog layout and I plan to use quite a few of these images with it.

These photographs have made me realise that I should embrace the body and style I have and accept the fact that I can be photogenic at times. If someone asked me to go do another photo shoot now, I'd definitely say yes. I might not be Elle Mcphearson or Kate Moss, but hey I'm not that bad either.

What do you think of these photos?

Beyond Organic Skincare

Being vegetarian for more years than I can remember, I've always loved looking around for organic non-animal tested brands, but sometimes they're not too easy to discover. In the past I've blogged about a few interesting brands that have given me products to trail and spread the word about and this time I've been sent some lovely products from the team behind Beyond Organic Skincare.

Beyond Organic Skincare is made with ethically sourced materials and are 100% natural and certificated organic products. The products are full with a variety of vitamins to help restore skin health and leave you looking your natural best. My initial trial of the products has left me blown away with some of the items and rather disappointed in another. As I always mention in my blog posts, just because a product doesn't agree with me, doesn't mean it won't be the perfect product for you. We all have different skin and different reactions, in the end it is purely down to what suits your skin needs.

The first products up for review was the Nourishing Day Cream and the Firming Eye Cream. Unfortunately the Nourishing Day Cream just wasn't for me and it made my skin a little bit itchy and oily. This may be due to the fact that I have highly sensitive skin and even some natural ingredients can bring me out in rashes - sometimes this can be quite a hassle for a beauty blogger. The Firming Eye Cream on the other hand was my favourite product I received. It's like a cheaper, more refreshing version of 'Clinique All About The Eyes' and works even better in my opinion. There's nothing worse than having tired eyes in the morning and this little tub has been my saviour. The fresh ingredients rejuvenated my eyes, not only making them feel firmer, but giving them a sparkly new leash of life by waking them up a little bit. I could easily see myself buying this product in the future, especially with my dissertation year coming up.

Alongside the firming eye cream, the 'Ultra Radiance Age Defying Cleanser' is up there with my favourite Beyond Organic Skincare samples. Although I've only used this cleanser once, I was shocked by how clear, refreshed and softer my face felt. It was a lovely feeling to experience after a long hard day.

The final item I was sent is the Shea Delight Moisturising bar. As much as this looks like the cutest little product ever, it didn't work wonders on me. The Shea delight moisturising bar is supposed to be an alternative to liquid moisturiser, where you simply rub it on your body and see the results. I'm sad to say that although it's a interesting concept and it did work slightly, I don't think it gave my body enough moisturising for me to be convinced to purchase it in the future.

The Beyond Organic Skincare range has left me wanting to try more products, but yet with a slight of hesitancy. The eye firmer and the anti ageing cleanser are products I'd buy again in a heartbeat, but as for the others, I'd probably have to see if Beyond Organic have any more suited products to my annoying sensitivity.

Jimmy Choo Exotic and Friday Evening Catchups

It's the end of a very long week and I'm feeling a mixture of emotions. Today saw the end of my one week placement at the Best British Bloggers headquarters, where all week I've been sourcing beauty bloggers for them, writing blog posts and doing PR related things that I love. Although I've only been there a few, I feel like I've learnt so much and even though getting up at 6am for the train every morning was really hard work, I'm totally going to miss my life as a PR intern in Leeds.

To reward myself for all the hard work I've done this week (any excuse for a bit of shopping), I ran full speed across town to Debenhams in my lunch break, where I finally picked up the perfume I've been longing for the last few weeks - The Jimmy Choo Exotic. I took my first sniff of this perfume whilst in the duty free area at Manchester Airport, waiting to board for Ibiza. This perfume had me addicted and all week I was clutching the tiniest bit of paper I sprayed hoping that when I got to the end of my holiday I could go buy it. Unfortunately due living in a pretty small town, the Jimmy Choo Exotic isn't sold in my area and the 'exotic' scent I fell in love with a few weeks ago had fazed out. I began debating all sorts of theories as to whether I should buy it online or go to my nearest city to have a look round. It then dawned on me that I had a week coming up in the glorious city of Leeds and with many department stores within distance of work, it was my opportunity to finally get it.

My love affair with Jimmy Choo fragrances first started when the original Eau De Parfum first came out. Many girls dream of owning a piece of Jimmy Choo and as a 19 year old girl the Jimmy Choo perfume was the closest I was going to get. Since I first got my Jimmy Choo perfume, I've never looked back and somewhere lingering in my draws, there has always been a bottle there, even if I was going through other perfume phases. The Jimmy Choo 60ml Limited Edition Exotic is very different to the previous perfumes. It's much sweeter and vibrant in colour. The colour reminds me of a Ruby - very striking and beautiful to look at.  The scent is a mixture of Blackcurrant's and Grapefruits - which overall combines to give a summer fruits zesty vibe. I've heard many people say that the Exotic is a little bit too sweet for them, but it's mainly down to personal preference. I like my perfume more fruity than floral and I love fragrances that give the illusion of sweet and innocent girl - although I'm very far from it.

The Jimmy Choo Exotic is only available in 60ml and costs £44. This is quite a steal to say that the original, much older perfume is £49 for a 60ml and not limited edition. From my past experience with the perfume range, I can say that Jimmy Choo are usually long lasting fragrances and you won't go through the bottle as easy as you would do other brands. I've always found this perfume quite cost efficient and this is coming from someone that wears perfume every single day, not just for special occasions.

If this review has managed to tickle your Jimmy Choo sweet tooth, I'd definitely give it a try! In all fairness, can a girl ever go wrong with Jimmy Choo?

Bon Prix Wishlist

Bon Prix Dress*

The image above is one you may recognise from a previous blog post.  The blog post was about the Bon Prix clothing line and the beautiful glitter dress I was sent. When I wrote the post I admitted that Bon Prix wasn't my first choice of shopping destination and that I regarded it as an 'older woman's' store in the past, however upon receiving that dress my outlook had changed and I fell in love with quality, the fit and the style. The dress is not only one of my favourites, but that post was one of my most popular on the blog, still getting a high amount of page views. It was this reason that I decided to have a look at Bon Prix again and see what I could next purchase.

I've always had a lust for leather. Leather trousers, shorts, jackets and even t-shirts - I have to have it. Whilst browsing Bon Prix, I decided to make a wish list and it comes as no surprise that this dress was first on the mood board.  The thing I like the most about it is the fact that it isn't all leather. It looks more sophisticated this way and even could double up as a work outfit. Sometimes a little bit too much leather can be over the top, but this combination looks great and very fitting with the autumn colour scheme and I could easily see this becoming one of my favourite party dresses coming up to winter.

My future brother-in-law is always having a go at me saying my bags are massive. I admit it, I love my oversized bags because they fit all my shopping in without me carrying around the extra hand luggage. However, I freely admit that it may be time to purchase a few smaller bags so I can attempt to look a little more sophisticated. I think this little tassel tote bag is absolutely adorable. Beautiful colours, lots of detail and for £30 its a steal. If there's one thing I love the most on this wish list, that is it.

Finally, they're not quite Jeffrey Campbell spiked Loitta's, but I think these spiked back patent court shoes look really snazzy and complete my 'rock'n'roll' vibe outfit. I can easily image wearing these on a night out or to a gig and the heel looks at a comfortable everyday wearing height. As much as I love my stilettos, since my knee operation I do have to be slightly careful with what I wear on my feet. One slip and I could end up reversing all the months of physio I've had in the past. Then again, if I was told I'd ever have to give up heels, I would cry like there's no tomorrow, sobbing endlessly into my favourite Kurt Geigers.

So there's my Bonprix wish list, what do you think of my choices?

Yuko Haircare

It may not look like it in this photograph, but for the last few months I've been having problems with hair. It felt like my hair had gone for amazing to a nightmare literally overnight due to dryness. I blame my holiday to Ibiza for a start. The humidity gave me frizzy hair all week through and ever since my hair has felt frazzled by the sun. Secondly, I've been quite a naughty girl when it comes to using styling equipement without any heat protection. As an ex-hairdresser I should really know the best treatments for my hair, but it seems like lately I've lost all willpower to nourish my locks.

My 'knight in shining armour' came in the form of press hair products I had been sent* by a brand called Yuko. Yuko haircare originates from Japan, but has recently made its way to the UK, making an appearance in many top salons.

The products I've been using are the 'Lock in Colour' shampoo and the 'Lock in Colour' treatment conditioner, which have both given me fantastic results. Since using this new haircare, I've seen a dramatic difference in the amount of frizz I have on a daily basis and my colour seems to shine radiantly.  Another thing I have noticed is that my hair dries more quickly since using the conditioner, meaning that my cuticles have less damage and my hair is finally getting tangle free again. I've always been prone to hair knots and since I'm currently growing my hair, I've noticed they have started reappearing like a fast spurt of acne.

For years on end I swore by only two haircare brands: Macadamia Oil and BedHead. It seems like now I'm willing to add another one to the list - Yuko haircare. I don't usually rave on so much about conditioners, but I really haven't experienced any negative effects with this one. I should add that I also suffer from a very sensitive scalp and that a lot of shampoos tend to irritate me - another thing that this brand didn't do. If I had to say one constructive criticism it would be the scent. It's a bit bland and I love my hair smelling fruity or floral rather than smelling of normal hair. However, if it means putting the scent aside for luscious long locks, I think i'll just have to do that.

Here's a little picture of how my hair looked just before going out the other day. I'm rather impressed with how shiny it looks on camera!

Yuko Haircare starts at around £12 and can be purchased from http://yuko-london.com/

Dreaming of a white wedding

Doesn't time fly? At one point you're picking up barbie in one hand and Ken in the other saying: "Daddy my dollies are married" and then next minute you're 15 years older and planning your own real life wedding. Weddings aren't as easy as they're shown in fairytales. We're shown this dream ending where she disappears off with a prince, but we are never shown all the planning that goes ahead of it. That's why when you finally start planning your own special occasion, it seems like somewhat of a reality shock.

Well I'm happy to say that I've finally got myself into gear and the wedding planning is starting to commence again after a long break. Today I finally secured the band for the big day! They're a local band called 'Suicide Blonde' and they will be serenading us with rock hits through the evening. I'm a massive fan and I know they will probably exceed all my expectations.

The next step of the planning process is to finally attend a few wedding dress stores. I'm a picky mare when it comes to normal clothes shopping, never-mind my wedding day. That fact that I've gone for a 1950s/60s theme has made life even more difficult as I'm more inclined to go with shorter dresses and they are currently a rarity in my area. I know eventually I'll find the right dress, but I'm well aware that I may have to broaden my search and go further a field and maybe even shop on-line. I know for a fact that I would like a shorter wedding dress, because of my height. Being five foot nothing means that a long dress would give the illusion of me being even shorter. I get panicky wearing maxi dresses for the exact same reason and I don't want to be having anxiety on my big day. I spend my life wearing 50s style dresses as they suit my hour glass shape and that's exactly why I want one for the most important day of my life.

I've noticed that short dresses appear quite popular abroad and quite a lot of American sites have plenty of variety. Of course ordering from America is too far a field for me, but it's great for the research. These are a few dresses that I stumbled across on evening and wedding dress website Dress First.

I love the bow design on this first dress and the retro design. The fact that it nips in at the waist and goes out at the hips will compliment my hour glass shape and the bow design will detract from my slightly unflattering stomach.

I have slightly broad shoulders and a dress like this second one would elongate the neck and give the illusion of thinner shoulders. I love the waist band and the puffed up skirt - it's so cute.

This final dress is by far my favourite so far. It looks like something a princess would wear. Elegant, pretty and yet so simplistic.  The flower detail on the front really channels the vintage vibe.

So there's my current wedding dress inspiration. Now all there is to do is to finally go shopping!

Which wedding dress do you like?

Sunday Notes

My mind is currently a bundle of nerves, excitement, happiness, shock and exhaustion. Tomorrow I re-start my work experience at one of my favourite PR firms, Stickeyes. A few of you may have noted that I talked about them quite a lot at the beginning of the year when I was due my first lot of work experience. Unfortunately part way through my auntie died and the work came to a sudden halt.  I've kindly been invited back to continue doing work for them and I'm overly excited, but slightly nervous because I've almost forgotten everything they taught me. At least I know that I'm not really on a first impressions basis at the moment, I can be myself and they already know me. This still doesn't stop me panicking over what to wear and how my hair will look on the day - wherever I am, professionally or casually I aim to look my best.

My happiness comes from the fact that I purchased the Babyliss Curl Secrets yesterday! I've been tweeting about them constantly over the last few days and I finally have them in my grip. Without a doubt, they are my favourite styling tool I own besides my GHDs and I've only had them a day. Easy to use and effortless curls, what girl wouldn't want that? I tried to do a video earlier today, but unfortunately the lighting wasn't quite right, so I'm going to do it when I have time later on during this week - watch this space.

Finally, the realisation of how close my wedding is, is leaving me in quite a shock. Of course I'm a very happy bride-to-be, but the volume of work I'll have to do now I'm in the 12 month countdown and the amount of money I'll be parting with is quite daunting. I just want my big day to be absolutely perfect, but in all fairness, as long as my man arrives at the alter, that will do!

So please bare with me this week as the posts may be a little bit lacking due to my work experience, but it's only one week so I'll be back properly in a flash. I have lots of amazing products to share with you over the next coming weeks and I know you'll love them.

Sunglasses Wishlist

It's a fact, I think my eyesight is getting progressively worse. I've been walking into things lately, my eyes are always squinting and I was having problems reading number plates the other day. Unfortunately these problems are entirely my stubborn fault. I've been told regularly to wear my glasses so it trains my eyes to get better, however I always leave the house without them due to habit. One day I'll take my optician seriously and surrender to life as a 'specky four eyes' (what I was constantly called as a child at school). One of my opticians also suggest Laser Eye Surgery and the thought of having that treatment gives me nightmares. I'm very squeamish when it comes to eyes and although my uncle has had it done and it's changed his life forever, I don't know whether I'd be able to go through with it, so glasses are probably my best bet for the moment.

The additional advice that came from my optician was that I should wear sunglasses more to prevent eye strain. I have big problems with focusing my eyes and it generally gets worse in the summer. I've been advised to invest in a pair of higher end sunglasses that would be able to give me adequate UV protection.

This is definitely not a problem, I love wearing sunglasses and I would give for any excuse to get my Gucci's out of their case. The only issues with my sunglasses collection is that they are literally all the same. I have a pair of Whistles sunglasses and my Gucci's, both are almost identical and apart from the name tag on the side, my fiance keeps asking why I bought two identical pairs, but maybe that's some men for you. It is this reason as to why I'm looking into investing in a new pair. Something different, classic and definitely designer - I break high street glasses so easily and my Gucci's are the only pair that have survived being dropped on the pavement copious amounts of times.

So here's my current sunglasses wish list from Optical Express. I chose to do an Optical Express wish list because they are one of the only big known optical brands in my area that sells high end designer glasses and if I wanted to try some on without venturing outside my town, this is most likely the place to go. I'm usually a Specsavers customer out of habit, but I really think it may be time to broaden my glasses horizons.

Jimmy Choo never goes wrong. I've always been fascinated by their shoes, perfume and handbags, now I'm even more in love with the brands sunglasses. Before I got my Gucci's, I highly contemplated buying some Jimmy Choo, however the shades I really wanted were out of stock. I long to have a pair of Jimmy Choo sunglasses in the future as I believe they're effortlessly stylish and completely versatile.

These sunglasses are something a little bit different for me. I'm usually the type to go for big rimmed jet black glasses, but I think it's time I invest in some colour. Tortoise Shell glasses are a classic and they rise through every decade as an influential colour for sunglasses. I like the look of these as they're simplistic and the gold 'Dior' logo looks really pretty.

These sunglasses look like they should have been at an old Hollywood pool party as the design clearly is vintage inspired and classic. The sunglasses ooze sex appeal and all I can envision is a curly haired blonde supermodel in a red bikini wearing these - yep I would totally love to be her.

It could be quite a long time until I save enough money to buy another designer pair, so for now, I suppose I could wear these heart shaped glasses for variation. A little bit over the top for everyday wear? Yeah, I'm thinking so too.

Do you wear glasses?

*All sunglasses images taken from the Optical Express website and do not belong to me.

Do you know your body shape?

Me in Ibiza a month ago!
5ft 2, slightly chubby hips, thunder thighs, a very small waist and an ample bust. That's how I would summarise my body shape, but it's not necessarily how other people would see me. When you look at yourself, you're often the most critical. When you wake up in the morning, a higher percentage of girls would scream at what they saw in the mirror rather than embrace a huge smile. It's the society we live in where we are constantly reminded that to be plastic and blonde is commonly appreciated and if you're anything above 6 stone and below 5ft 8 you're abnormal. Okay, that may be a slight over exaggeration, but that's how a lot of girls see it and me included. I've always been openly honest about the way I see myself on this blog. I've been from size 18 to size 6 and now settled at a size 8 to 10. I've seen my wobbly bits expanded and de-expanded, I've seen my thighs go through thick to thin and I've learnt that no matter what body shape I am, I'm never happy. Truth? I was less concerned about my weight when I was a size 18 as I had nothing to lose. I knew I was what society deemed 'fat' and I didn't have to prove for years on end that I'm not gaining the weight back that I have lost. Dieting seems like a yo-yo of ups and downs and when you reach the end, people still have their concerns. Let's face it, you can never win. Fact.

The other day I was browsing Twitter and someone tweeted this link from www.marisota.co.uk discussing body size. As their clothes are too large for me, I've never really visited the website, but I found their new campaign rather delightful. Marisota are on a mission to make women aware of what their actual body size is, rather than how women perceive themselves. You could stand in front of three of four different women and they will all tell you that you're a different body shape. Even my partner selected a different body to shape on the chart for me. On the Marisota blog there's a game called 'Get Wise About Your Size" that you can play, where you can pick the body size that you think you are and at the results, it will tell you which of the bodies you are most like by entering your waist measurements. It was this game that inspired my blog post as I selected the third person from the diagram and it turns out that I'm actually a similar size to number 1.

It shocked me that I'm so far off recognising myself and it also highlighted how frightening it can be for women that think they are so much bigger than they are. According to this diagram, I see myself 12.5% fatter than I actual am. Maybe it's time for me to stand in front of a bigger mirror and applaud myself for being towards the smaller end of the scale. Self recognition and value is important. You could be any one of those women on the scale and be the most beautiful person in the world inside and out. Everyone in the world is unique and there's no-one out there quite like you.

Have you checked out "Get wise about your size"?
