It's that time of year again where we make New Years Resolutions not to spend anything, but end up being enticed by all the January sales. I'm such a devil for anything with the words 'half price' or '50% or less' emblazoned on them. My advice is, if you're going to spend, why not do it at the beginning of the year? Get everything you need for the next coming months at a smaller price and everyone's happy. Hopefully this attitude will remain when I get my bank balance at the end of the month.
Since boxing day, my spending has gone out of control. In all fairness, I have bought everything I have needed for the last few months and I'm rather content. I'll be having a comfortable February in my brand new bed, a tidier bedroom thanks to my new pink box and everything else contributes to my overall happiness. Here is what I bought - be prepared for a very long list.
Office Boots
Originally £75 Bought for £30 Saving £45
My first purchase was during the boxing days and they are my boots from Office. These beautiful cowboy inspired boots are the comfiest shoes I have ever worn and really jazz up some of my basic outfits. The small heel adds a little bit of height for everyday shopping and overall, they make an excellent statement shoe. When I went to buy these, the girl at the counter was telling me how much she was in love with these shoes too.
Pink Box from B&Q
Originally £2.50 Bought for 99p Saving £1.50
When you run your own beauty website, you're vanity case grows at such an unexpected rate. I remember owning an eyeliner, mascara and a few nail polishes. I'd never have expected having four draws full and still growing. I picked up this box at B&Q when my dad was shopping. Because he spent £50, it meant that each item he bought had 15% off. I also got this box a tiny bit cheaper with my dad having a trade discount card due to him running his own plumbing business. This little box is perfect for sitting on top of my current stack.
Bed and Mattress from Bensons for Beds
Originally £878 Bought for £ 410 Saving £468
Suffering from Arthritis is seriously no fun, especially when I have a really old bed that I've had since I was approximately 11 years old. I wake up with aches and pains and never feel rested. It was my Dads idea to go look around in the sales for a new bed and I fell in love with this one from Bensons for Beds. It's a beautiful solid wood bed frame with a comfortable medium mattress, exactly what I need for my bedroom. I'm still awaiting the arrival of my new bed and I can't wait for it to arrive. I shall be paying this off for the next few months, but I think it will be a perfect investment for when me and James move in together.
(Packaging from a different pillow case)
Memory Foam pillow from Bensons for Beds
Originally £55 Bought for £ 10 Saving £45
Whilst browsing for my new bed I got talking to a lovely sales woman. I told her about my joint problems and she recommended that I buy an memory foam pillow. She told me that they had some unwanted stock in the back and sold me the pillow for £10.
Two Mollie Fish
Originally £2.50 Bought for £5 buy 2 get 11 free Saving £27.50
If you have have been following me on Twitter you will have all heard the story about me and my fishies. When I was sixteen I had my appendix out and whilst on my way home from hospital we called at a Pet Store. My dad told me that I could buy some fish for my room as I wanted some for as long as I could remember. Since then, my tank has been home to many different varieties of fish and on boxing day, I thought it would be a good idea to treat myself to some new pets. My guinea pig had just died and I was feeling pet broody. I bought two Mollie fish and called them Ziggy and Lucy (My partner decided this name). Literally the next day, I woke up and noticed they had given birth to 11 babies. Unfortunately some of the babies have now been eaten, but I still have 8 left.
Picture frame from Dunelm Mill.
Originally £5.00 Bought for £1.50 Saving £3.50
The year 2012 was a devastating time for me as I lost two of my lovely pets. Anyone who knows me will tell you that animals play a big part in my life. I used to breed guinea pigs and I'm obsessed with animals to the point that I've been vegetarian for the last 9 years and I wouldn't change it for the world. I've been telling my partner that I needed a photo frame for my bedroom and we stumbled across this whilst browsing in Dunelm Mill. I'm in love with that store. Anyone looking for home accessories that are vintage inspired and great value for money should visit here. I bought this beautiful frame for £1.50 and it really exhibits my love for my animals. I will definitely be going shopping in Dunelm Mill again soon.
My No7 Mirror from Boots
Originally £49.99 Bought for £15.99 Saving £34.00
I've wanted one of these mirrors for so long and when I saw it in the sale for £15.99 I couldn't help myself. It looks so beautiful and really helps me see what I'm doing in my dark bedroom.
No7 Blusher from Boots
Originally £8.00 Bought for £5.00 Saving £3.00
No7 have once again brought out their vouchers and I got this beautiful little cream blusher for £5. Review will be coming next week.
Primark Pillow
Originally £4.00 Bought for £4.00
This pillow wasn't in the sale, but I've wanted it for quite awhile. It's so pretty and it's really revamped my little chair in my room.
Linea Handbag from House of Fraser
Originally £99 Bought for £29 Saving £70
I've needed a small little going out bag for such a long time. I always prioritise buying much larger bags as I have to carry so many books around being a student. I fell in love with the colour of this Linea bag and it has so much space. I doubt I'll be losing anything on a night out.
YSL Lipstick from House of Fraser
Originally £22.00 Bought for £13.20 Saving £8.80
YSL is one of my favourite lipstick brands and I really couldn't resist buying this beautiful pink. It's almost the same colour as my favourite Chanel lipstick I lost on a night out and I was really happy to find this product at such a fantastic price in House of Fraser. I love January sales.
I managed to buy such a varied amount of items in this years boxing day/January sales and I'm extremely happy with my purchases. I trawled around the stores looking for clothing but unfortunately there wasn't anything I liked in my size. These items will really make a big difference to my 2013 and I'm happy I started the year with a bang. I've managed to save such a lot of money on items that I've wanted for the last few months. Hopefully I'll keep up the saving for the next year. This is probably my last major splurge as I embark on saving for my wedding. Of course I'll miss the YSL lipsticks and I will always be longing for the latest French Connection, but happiness is priceless and my partner brings that to me without spending.

Oooo the mirror is tempting! What a great price reduction! My bedroom lighting must be off as my make up looks great in there but in day light I always appear to have gone overboard with the bronzed - whoops! So I need better lighting - or a lighted mirror!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog
